First girl ever to earn a varsity letter on the men’s golf team at the University of Oklahoma, where she was on scholarship... Owns a ranch in Muskogee, Okla., and raises quarter horses … Collects rare Indian pottery and rugs… Lists Bob Toski and Jack Grout as tutors… Very interested in Bible study.

CAREER: Frequently a contender and a five-time runner-up during her career, Beth has been unable to break through into the win column.  She plays particularly well on difficult courses, as witnessed by her second-place finishes in the 1967 and ’74 Women’s Opens.  She had her best year ever in 1978 with almost $33,000 in earnings.  The 1979 season was a very disappointing one for Beth, but perhaps some of the reason lies in her time-consuming duties as President of the LPGA.

Amateur

Beth was the Oklahoma high school champion in 1955 and ’56.  In 1957 she was the Oklahoma Junior champ and was runner-up in the USGA Junior, and that year was awarded the Pete Smith athletic achievement award.  She won the Oklahoma State Amateur title in 1960.
