Dear Mr. Whan,
Please allow me to introduce myself to you. I am the mother of a nine-year-old golfer and a child psychologist. I mention my occupation as I describe and comment on child/adult interactions commonly. More specifically, I describe if the relationships are beneficial or a detriment to children. Given my occupations, I feel compelled to inform you that Dewi Claire Schreefel is a great asset to your organization. Ms. Schreefel is a perfect example of "Why it's different out here."
My daughter, Alexandra (AKA "Alex"), met M.S.. Schreefel at the ShopRite LPGA Classic's One Day Pro-Am event. Her father, Todd, tried to get her a spot in the pro-am. Unfortunately, she was not old enough. However, the guest relations staff arranged for Alex to attend the event with her clubs. Further, Alex was permitted to use the practice facilities. When Alex and I went to see Todd off at the first tee, Ms. Schreefel, upon seeing Alex said, "Do you play golf?" When Alex affirmed she was a golfer, Ms. Schreefel said, "Strap that bag on the cart next to mine, she is playing with me today!" The group was comfortable allowing Alex to join in. When appropriate, Ms. Schreefel gave Alex some putting and chipping tips. By the end of the day, Ms. Schreefel accomplished the great feat of establishing a warm rapport with Alex. Typically, it takes several meeting with an individual for Alex to smoothly/naturally interact with anyone. However, Alex went home that night knowing she had made a new friend. When Todd and Alex returned to the ShopRite LPGA Classic tournament they shadowed Ms. Schreefel as she played the tournament for a day. Ms. Schreefel greeted them warmly and politely interacted with them during her round.
In August we attended the Wegman's LPGA Championship. Alex was very excited to go watch her "friend, Dewi Claire" play. When Ms. Schreefel saw Alex on the practice range, she stopped practicing to greet Alex with a big hug. Before returning to warming-up, Ms. Schreefel let Alex show her a medal she won in a U.S. Kids event. At Alex's insistence, we shadowed Ms. Schreefel throughout her round, in rainy, cold and windy conditions. Again, during the round periodically she politely interacted with us and we all cheered her on. A few bystanders even asked if we were Ms. Schreefel's family. At the end of the day Ms. Schreefel and her playing partners (Sarah Jane Smith and Cindy LaCrosse) took their time to than Alex for watching them. Additionally, Ms. Schreefel signed her glove for Alex.
Since, we have returned home Alex has been trying to convince her father, Todd, to take her to Florida for a weekend. Her plan is to fly to Florida after school, go to the ANNIKA Academy for her lesson with Charlotta Sorenstam; play 9 holes with Todd; spend a day watching her friend, Dewi Claire play in the CME Globe Tour Championship. She wants to fly home Sunday night so she can make it to school on Monday. Additionally, next year she is planning to attend the ShopRite LPGA Classic and the entire KPMG Women's PGA Championship at Westchester.
It really is different out there!
Sincerely,
Elizabeth
Dear My friend Dewi Claire, Thank you for your glove. I like how it says "my friend" not "your friend". My mom said that's how you speak English. Also, we made my dad the head of the Dewi Claire fan club. So far, I am in the lead for my Club Championship. You can do it too! I can feel it! I am going to see you at the ShopRite tournament. Your friend Alex P.S. I won the Club Championship with the glove I have signed for you. Yay! Hope you do the same! |
