23 U.S. and three international qualifiers held on road to Erin Hills; entries open today

LIBERTY CORNER, N.J. (Feb. 12, 2025) – The United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced qualifying sites for the 80th U.S. Women’s Open Championship Presented by Ally, to be held at Erin Hills, in Erin Wis., from May 29-June 1. It is the first U.S. Women’s Open for the resort.

Conducted over 36 holes, qualifying will be held at 23 sites across the United States, plus one each in Canada, Japan and Italy between April 15 and May 13. Online entry applications open today, and will continue through Wednesday, April 2, at 5 p.m. EDT (champs.usga.org).

“The collaboration between Allied Golf Associations in the United States, International Federations and Tours is significant in the qualifying process and provides thousands of professional and amateur golfers an opportunity to earn a place in the U.S. Women’s Open field,” said USGA Chief Championships Officer John Bodenhamer. “We know that Erin Hills, the surrounding community and the state of Wisconsin have been ardent supporters of championship golf and will once again create an outstanding atmosphere for the world’s greatest players.”

The Olympic Club’s Lake Course, in San Francisco, Calif., Del Paso Country Club, in Sacramento, Calif., Salem Country Club, in Peabody, Mass., and Druid Hills Golf Club, in Atlanta, Ga., are the qualifying courses that have also hosted the U.S. Women’s Open. The Olympic Club will host the 125th U.S. Amateur Championship in August.

Defending champion Yuka Saso claimed her first Women’s Open in 2021 at The Olympic Club in a dramatic playoff with Nasa Hataoka, matching Inbee Park as the youngest champion in the event’s history. Betsy Rawls won the first of her record-tying four Open victories at Druid Hills in 1951, while Janet Alex carded a final-round 68 for a six-stroke triumph at Del Paso in 1982. Del Paso will host a qualifier for the fourth time but first in 30 years. Finally, Babe Didrikson Zaharias (1954) and Hollis Stacy (1984) each won their third and final Open at Salem.

Druid Hills and Sugar Mill Country Club, in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.., will each host Women’s Open qualifying for the seventh time. Shannopin Country Club, in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Walnut Creek Golf Preserve, in Westminster, Colo., will each be sites for the sixth time. Arizona Country Club, in Phoenix, Ariz., and Canyon Creek Country Club, in Richardson, Texas, are hosting for the fifth time.

Boso Country Club, in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, is an international site for the fourth consecutive year. Last year’s qualifier at the club’s East and West Courses produced two players who made the 36-hole cut. Amiyo Ozeki tied for 36th in her U.S. Women’s Open debut, while Yui Kawamoto (T-39) played in her second championship.

California has the most qualifying sites with four. Three U.S. Women’s Open qualifiers are scheduled in Florida, while Texas will host two qualifiers. In total, 17 states are hosting qualifiers.

Birdie Kim (2005) is the last player to win the U.S. Women’s Open after advancing through qualifying. In 2024, 26 golfers who played in a qualifier made the 36-hole cut in the Women’s Open at Lancaster (Pa.) Country Club. Arpichaya Yubol, who shot 68-69 on the weekend to finish fifth, was the top finisher.

The USGA accepted 1,897 entries, the second-highest total in championship history, at Lancaster Country Club in 2024. The record of 2,107 entries was established for the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach (Calif.) Golf Links.

This will be the 18th USGA championship and third U.S. Women’s Open contested in Wisconsin. Erin Hills has previously hosted four USGA championships, including the 2017 U.S. Open won by Brooks Koepka. It will become the 16th club to have held both the U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Open.
