Mayakoba, Quintana Roo, April 28, 2025 – Mexican golfer Clarisa Temelo officially received an invitation to participate in the LPGA Tour’s Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba, to be played May 22-25 on the El Camaleón Course at Mayakoba.

The 18-year-old was born in Querétaro, Mexico and is a student at the University of Arkansas. She is currently ranked 63rd in the World Amateur Ranking (WAGR) and has achieved four victories in her career.

There are now four Mexican players confirmed to play in the tournament, which marks the return of the LPGA to Mexico for the first time since 2017. In addition to Temelo, Isabella Fierro, who plays on the Epson Tour and also received a sponsor exemption, Gaby Lopez, a three-time LPGA Tour winner, and Maria Fassi, who is also playing on the Epson Tour in 2025, are the other Mexican players in the field.

In November 2024, Temelo became the first Mexican to win the Women's Amateur Latin America (WALA) in the history of the championship, organized by The R&A and the ANNIKA Foundation. Temelo was the highest ranked player and favorite to win the WALA, played in Peru in 2024, and finished with a four day total of 275 (-9) to beat Barbados’ Emily Odwin and fellow Mexican Cory Lopez by six strokes.

“Every year I have played the WALA, I had the feeling that I could win it,” said Temelo after her win in Lima.

The victory earned her a spot in three of the LPGA Tour’s five major championships in 2025: The Chevron Championship, The Amundi Evian Championship, and the AIG Women's Open. In addition, the Mexican received an exemption to play The Women's Amateur Championship at Nairn Golf Club in Scotland.

In 2024 Temelo had excellent results, with 3 top-10 finishes in her first collegiate season, a T4 result in the Mexican Women's Amateur and a eighth place finish in the Toyota Junior World Cup in Japan.

Last week, Temelo competed in her first major championship, The Chevron Championship, at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas. She missed the cut with a two-day total of 150 (+6).

She has had a positive start to the 2025 season at the University of Arkansas, finishing third in the individual standings at the Purdue Puerto Rico Classic and leading the Razorback’s to victory in the team competition.

In the first months of this year, she has achieved three additional Top-20 finishes; 18th at Betsy Rawls, 15th at the Clemson Invitational and 13th at the SEC Women's Golf Championship.

Temelo has also represented Mexico in international events. In 2022 in Paris, France, she was part of the national team that participated in the Espirito Santo Trophy. The Aztec team, made up of Temelo, Isabel Amezcua and Lauren Daiana Olivares, placed 32nd in the event won by Sweden.

After an eight-year absence, the women's professional golf circuit will return to Mexico for the Riviera Maya Open. The last time the LPGA Tour was in Mexican was in 2017 for the Lorena Ochoa Invitational.

With a field of 144 players, the Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba will be held at the El Camaleón de Mayakoba course, with a purse of 2.5 million dollars, and will serve as a preamble to the US Women's Open.

The Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba is one of 33 Official LPGA Tour events in 2025, a season that will distribute a purse in excess of $129 million dollars. The schedule includes stops in 14 U.S. states and 11 countries.

The Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba solidifies the state of Quintana Roo's position as a top destination for international sports tourism. The tournament's activities will begin on May 17, with the first arrivals of players and first practice rounds.

As an extra attraction, on Saturday, May 24, the group BACILOS will perform their greatest hits, “Caraluna”, “Mi primer millón”, “Tabaco y Chanel”, among others.
