THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Six-time PGA Tour winner Max Homa was on-site on Friday at The Chevron Championship in The Woodlands, Texas.

Homa attended the first major championship of the LPGA Tour season as a guest of Accenture and participated in a panel alongside some of the company’s executive employees that was held at the Prairie View A&M Golf Media Lab, an on-site activation run by students from Prairie View A&M University who bring their KPVU-TV studio setup to the event each year to give fans a look at live television production.

After the panel, which saw Accenture donate $10,000 to the HBCU, Homa then had the opportunity to watch some of golf’s top athletes as they made their way around The Club at Carlton Woods in the second round of The Chevron Championship.

Having been friends with Danielle Kang for quite some time and having played alongside 11-time LPGA Tour winner Lexi Thompson and young superstar Rose Zhang in Capital One’s The Match last February, Homa has personally witnessed just how great his LPGA Tour counterparts are on the golf course. And he couldn’t say enough positive things about the sheer amount of talent these athletes possess while he was taking in the action on Friday afternoon at The Chevron Championship.

“Lexi is pretty outstanding,” Homa said in a video that was shared on the LPGA Tour’s social channels. “She's obviously super strong in the way she hits a golf ball. We played The Match with each other, and the noise and how much hit it has on it is very unique. Then you have people, I've gotten to play with Nelly before, just so well-rounded. Alison Lee, also just wildly impressive. Danielle Kang, just good at everything. It's been fun to get to see a lot of their games.”

But Homa’s support of the women’s game extends beyond his brief appearance at The Chevron Championship, as he often tunes into the LPGA Tour broadcasts whenever he has the opportunity.

“Our golf lives don't really cross over very often because we're obviously playing the same season, but it's something I watch,” Homa said. “Obviously, I'm a fan of golf, but I'm a fan of the LPGA Tour, fan of the players. So, when you're in the area, you want to get to watch it not on TV.”

Not often do you see a male athlete overtly lauding the skills of their female equivalents, but Homa isn’t shy about his love for women’s golf, as he recognizes the unique platform he has to promote the women’s game. And Homa hopes to utilize his position on the men’s side of things to positively impact the viewership and fandom of the LPGA Tour in any way that he possibly can.

“I think it's important for us to keep bringing awareness to just how amazing these women are at golf,” Homa said. “It's a different skill set. They play a different game than us. I haven't seen anybody miss a fairway yet, and they haven't gotten a big clap. If I hit a fairway, I could see people high-fiving in the crowd. It's a different game, and it's fun to get to see that, especially up close and personal.

“I try to tell everybody I've always loved watching the women play. That's why I'm happy to be here. But hopefully, it keeps growing and giving them more eyeballs.”
