The LPGA Tour rolls into the second of three consecutive weeks competing in Asia with its trip to Singapore for the 17th edition of the HSBC Women’s World Championship. The limited-field event will see 66 of the world’s top-ranked players square off over 72 holes on The Tanjong Course at Sentosa Golf Club. The no-cut event affords players an opportunity to rack up much-needed Race to the CME Globe points, as well as earn official prize money with a purse of $2.4 million up for grabs in Singapore. Here is a deeper dive into what you need to know about this week’s tournament, nicknamed ‘Asia’s Major.’

The Field

Each season, the HSBC Women’s World Championship attracts the biggest names in women’s golf, and this year is no different. Nine of the top 10 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings are slated to compete in Singapore, including Jeeno Thitikul, Lydia Ko, Ruoning Yin, Lilia Vu, Hannah Green, Haeran Ryu, Jin Young Ko Charley Hull and Celine Boutier. Thitikul, who won in her first start of the season on the Ladies European Tour, kept that momentum rolling last week at the Honda LPGA Thailand, where she finished solo third. She’ll have fond memories to lean on as she returns to Sentosa Golf Club, where she tied for fourth in 2022 and finished solo 10th in 2023.

The first three winners of the 2025 LPGA Tour season are also in the field. A Lim Kim, who picked up a victory at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, is coming off a sixth-place showing last week in Thailand. Yealimi Noh, who captured the Founders Cup presented by U.S. Virgin Islands in early February and tied for 11th in Thailand, and Angel Yin, who was victorious at the Honda LPGA Thailand and captured her second career LPGA Tour title last week, is also poised to compete in Singapore.

This year’s field also features three rookies – Miyu Yamashita, Miranda Wang and Rio Takeda, the last of whom tied for ninth in Thailand.

Hannah Green Defends

Hannah Green went on a birdie blitz over the closing stretch of the HSBC Women’s World Championship in 2024. The Aussie rolled in critical putts over her final three holes, including a 27-footer on the 72nd hole, to defeat Celine Boutier by a single stroke. Green’s victory became a springboard to a career season in which she went on to win twice more at the JM Eagle LA Championship and BMW Ladies Championship. Green will make her third start of the year when she tees it up this week after tying for 20th in her season debut at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions and tying for fourth at the Founders Cup.

Asia’s Major

Outside of the LPGA’s five major championships, there are few tournaments that have seen as many decorated winners as the HSBC Women’s World Championship. Since the event’s first playing in 2008, 12 of the 14 players to hoist the trophy in Singapore have also won a major championship during their career. By attracting a star-studded field year after year, which in turn has produced an illustrious list of winners, fittingly, the HSBC Women’s World Championship has earned the nickname, ‘Asia’s Major.’

Three of the tournament’s past champions are in the field again this year. Green, who won the 2019 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship for her first major title, will seek to defend this week in Singapore. Jin Young Ko, a two-time major champion, will be working to win at Sentosa Golf Club for a third time, having won the event back-to-back in 2022 and 2023. Hyo Joo Kim, winner of the 2014 Amundi Evian Championship and who was victorious in Singapore in 2021, is also in the field this week.

Players to Watch

If past history is any indication, major champions are going to be the ones to watch at the HSBC Women’s World Championship. This week, there are four players – all four of whom are major champions – that fans will want to keep an eye on as they seek to hoist a trophy in Singapore for the first time.

Lydia Ko: Now a three-time major champion thanks to her victory at the AIG Women’s Open last summer, Ko will make her third start of the season when she sees it up this week in Singapore. Ko has earned four top 10s at Sentosa Golf Club, including a runner-up finish in 2015. Ko kicked off her 2025 LPGA Tour season with a sixth-place finish at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions and followed that up with a tie for 48th the following week at the Founders Cup. She did not play last week in Thailand.

Brooke Henderson: Anxious to return to the winner’s circle for the first time since 2023, the two-time major winner could find a spark in Singapore. Since 2016, Henderson has racked up five top 10s at the HSBC Women’s World Championship, including a tie for second in 2018. The Canadian has had a slow start to the year thus far, tying for 14th at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, missing the cut at the Founders Cup presented by U.S. Virgin Islands and tying for 33rd in Thailand and remains in search of her first top 10 of the season.

Allisen Corpuz: The 2023 U.S. Women’s Open champion has been knocking on the door of victory during her last two trips to the HSBC Women’s World Championship, where she tied for third in 2023 and tied for eighth last season. This week, Corpuz is fresh off her first top 10 of the year after tying for seventh in Thailand.

Ayaka Furue: The 24-year-old rising star from Japan captured her first major title last season at The Amundi Evian Championship. Over the past two years, Furue has come close to hoisting the trophy in Singapore, tying for eighth in 2024 and tying for third in 2023. Furue will make her fourth start of the season when she tees it up this week at the HSBC Women’s World Championship and will be looking to pick up her first top 10 of the year in Asia.

Sponsor Invitations

The HSBC Women’s World Championship provided invitations to compete this week to five players, including Singapore’s own Shannon Tan, who won for the first time on the Ladies European Tour in 2024 and represented her home country at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Danielle Kang will make her 11th appearance in Singapore thanks to a sponsor invitation. Kang tied for second in 2018, a performance that came after she set the 36-hole tournament scoring record. The American is coming off a missed cut in her last start at the Founders Cup. The final three sponsor invitations were given to Muni He, who will be making her third appearance at Sentosa Golf Club, Epson Tour graduate Miranda Wang, an LPGA Tour rookie who recorded six top 10s and a victory on the Epson Tour in 2024, and Singaporean amateur Xingtong Chen.
