The LPGA Tour is at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Orlando, Fla., this week for the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. Several 2023 and 2024 LPGA Tour winners are set to tee it up alongside 51 celebrity participants in the 2025 edition of the event, including Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings No. 1 Nelly Korda and past Tournament of Champions winners Lydia Ko and Brooke Henderson. While the celebs will be playing in their own Stableford competition, the professionals will complete 72 holes of stroke play at Lake Nona, with $300,000 and 500 Race to the CME Globe points going to the champion.

Thursday, 9:05 a.m. – Nelly Korda/Annika Sorenstam/Derek Lowe

Nelly Korda will continue searching for her first Tournament of Champions victory on Thursday at 9:05 a.m. alongside celebrity division participants Annika Sorenstam and Derek Lowe. Korda is coming off an incredible 2024 LPGA Tour season, one that saw her collect seven titles, five of which she earned in five straight starts at the LPGA Drive On Championship, the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship, the Ford Championship presented by Wild Horse Pass, the T-Mobile Match Play presented by MGM Rewards and The Chevron Championship. She became just the third player since 1978 to win in five consecutive events on the LPGA Tour, joining a list that only includes Nancy Lopez and Sorenstam. The 26-year-old also earned Rolex Player of the Year honors for the first time in her career and won the Rolex ANNIKA Major Award, which recognizes the player with the best cumulative record in the major championships as determined by a points system throughout the season. This week marks Korda’s seventh start in the season-opening Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, and in her six previous appearances, she has earned five top-10 finishes, four of which were T4 or better results. Korda has won at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in the past, capturing the Gainbridge LPGA title when the event was contested at the venue in 2021, and will be working to recreate that success in the 2025 edition of the Tournament of Champions. Statistically, Korda consistently led the Tour in several categories last year and finished the 2024 season ranked first in strokes gained total (+2.44), strokes gained off the tee (+0.88), percentage of rounds in the 60s (63.2 percent) and par-4 scoring average (3.96).

LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame member and Lake Nona resident Annika Sorenstam will be playing in the celebrity division this week at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. The Swede collected 72 career victories during her time competing on the LPGA Tour, 10 of which were major championships, and she is an eight-time Rolex Player of the Year honoree as well as a six-time winner of the Vare Trophy. Sorenstam is the only woman in LPGA Tour history to have carded a 59, doing so at the 2001 Standard Register PING at Moon Valley Country Club in Phoenix, Ariz.

Derek Lowe played for the Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Guardians, New York Yankees and Texas Rangers during his time in the MLB. While with the Red Sox, he threw a no-hitter on April 27, 2002, helped the team win a World Series in 2004 and participated in two MLB All-Star Games (2000, 2002).

Thursday, 9:16 a.m. – Lydia Ko/Don Cheadle/Michael Pena

Lydia Ko is the defending champion this week at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions and will be working to once again kick off her year with a victory at her home course, Lake Nona Golf and Country Club. Ko won by two shots over Alexa Pano in Orlando, Fla., last season after posting a four-day total of 14-under to collect her 20th career LPGA Tour title, a win that gave her a 26th LPGA Hall of Fame point, leaving the superstar just one point away from automatic qualification into one of the most prestigious Halls of Fame in all of sport. She secured her spot among the LPGA Tour’s greatest in August, earning the 27th and final point necessary to gain LPGA Hall of Fame entry by taking gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics at Le Golf National, a performance that also made Ko the only athlete in Olympic golf history to complete the medal trifecta, as she had earned silver at 2016 Rio and captured bronze at Tokyo 2020. Ko won two more titles last year at the AIG Women’s Open at the Old Course at St Andrews, her third career major victory, and at the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G, located just outside of Cincinnati, Ohio. This is Ko’s fourth start in the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, and along with her victory, she has earned two other top-10 results in her three prior appearances, finishing solo eighth in 2019 and then tying for 10th in 2022. According to data provided by KPMG Performance Insights, the New Zealand native was one of three players who ended the 2024 season ranked inside the top 20 on Tour in both strokes gained approach and strokes gained putting, finishing 17th and 14th in those two metrics, respectively. She also carded 14 bogey-free rounds last year, raising her bogey-free round total to 138 since 2014, a whopping 53 more than her next closest competitor in that timeframe.

Actor Don Cheadle has won two Golden Globe Awards, two Grammy Awards and a Tony Award and has been nominated for awards in all four major performance categories that comprise an EGOT. Cheadle is most widely known for his role in the 2004 movies “Hotel Rwanda” and “Crash” and is also a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is his first appearance at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions.

Michael Peña starred in “Crash” alongside his playing partner Cheadle and also had roles in “American Hustle”, “Million Dollar Baby”, “The Martian”, “Cesar Chavez” and “Ant-Man”. He has also acted in several television shows.

Thursday, 10:22 a.m. – Haeran Ryu/Rio Takeda/Mark Mulder

Haeran Ryu is teeing it up for the second time ever in the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, having finished in a tie for 12th in her tournament debut last season. She first qualified for the event after becoming a Rolex First-Time Winner during her rookie year at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G in 2023 and then continued her winning ways in her second career season, picking up her second Tour title at the 2024 FM Championship after defeating former Rolex Rankings No. 1 Jin Young Ko in a playoff at TPC Boston in the tournament’s inaugural edition. Looking at data provided by KPMG Performance Insights, Ryu finished last season ranked first in strokes gained tee to green (+1.94), second in strokes gained approach (+1.50) and second in greens in regulation percentage (76.8 percent). She was also tied for first in proximity to the hole, hitting it 23 feet from the cup on average with her approach shots. Her T12 showing at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club was one of 13 top-15 results that Ryu carded in addition to her victory in Massachusetts, and it’s a finish that she will be looking to improve upon as she gets her third season with the LPGA Tour underway.

Japan’s Rio Takeda is the only 2025 LPGA Tour rookie in this week’s field, having qualified for her first Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions by winning the TOTO Japan Classic as a non-member last season. Takeda was offered the opportunity to take immediate LPGA Tour Membership following her victory in her home country in November 2024, but instead chose to defer status until 2025, making her one of 21 rookies that will be competing on Tour this year. The 21-year-old teed it up in five LPGA Tour events before picking up her first career Tour title, most notably tying for ninth at the U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally that was contested at Lancaster Country Club last year. She has eight career victories on the JLPGA Tour, including her win at the co-sanctioned TOTO Japan Classic, all of which she recorded during the 2024 season.

Mark Mulder was a professional baseball player, competing for both the Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals during his time with the MLB. He made two MLB All-Star Game appearances in 2003 and 2004 while playing for the Athletics. Mulder is a three-time winner of the American Century Championship and also won the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions celebrity division in 2017.
