Ryann O’Toole has a shot at collecting her second career LPGA Tour title on Sunday at the BMW Ladies Championship. Through three rounds at the Seowon Hills Course at Seowon Valley Country Club, the 37-year-old is in a tie for fourth at 14-under overall, four shots back of 54-hole leader Hannah Green, who currently sits at 18-under.

O’Toole got off to a solid start on Thursday in the Republic of Korea, carding a 3-under 69 after making two bogeys and five birdies in the first round. The 2021 ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open winner then carded her lowest 18-hole score of the 2024 LPGA Tour season in round two, firing a 7-under 65 with one bogey and eight birdies on her scorecard to move from T28 to T5 with 36 holes to play.

Saturday saw O’Toole record her second bogey-free round of the season and first since day one of The Amundi Evian Championship. She birdied three of the four par 5s at the Seowon Hills Course as well as the par-4 3rd hole to post a 4-under 68 on day three and move to 14-under for the tournament, sitting within five of the lead entering the final round for the first time since finishing second at the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship in March.

This week marks O’Toole’s second career start in the BMW Ladies Championship, and after finishing 74th in her tournament debut last year at Seowon Valley Country Club, she wasn’t too sure how things might go this week in Korea. But O’Toole committed to keeping herself mentally in check and didn’t worry too much about what had happened in 2023, a strategy that has clearly worked well for her over the last 54 holes.

“I would say coming into this event, based off of last year, I would not say this course suited me,” O’Toole admitted. “But I came in with an open mind and thought every year is different, and I know it a bit better. And just tried to take it as it came. I spent the last two weeks really grinding in the heat back in Arizona, so it feels good to be in some cooler weather. Maybe that helps.”

The BMW Ladies Championship is O’Toole’s 21st event of the 2024 LPGA Tour season, and in addition to her runner-up performance at Palos Verdes Golf Club in the spring, she has two other top-25 results on her resume this year – a tie for eighth that came at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give and a tie for 19th that came at the CPKC Women’s Open.

She is currently sitting at 64th in the Race to the CME Globe, four spots outside of the top-60 cutoff for qualification into the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship, and will be working to climb the rankings as much as she can over the next few weeks with just a few regular-season tournaments left to make a move.

A win on Sunday at the BMW Ladies Championship would certainly solve a lot of problems for O’Toole, who hasn’t played in the CME Group Tour Championship since 2022, but she knows that she is going to need another low round if she wants to separate herself from the crowd at the top of the leaderboard and contend for her first victory since 2021 on day four in Republic of Korea.

“I'm not going to put (winning) past anybody,” O’Toole said. “I think it's going to really take a good round tomorrow. So I hope I can get another solid round and see where it leaves me."
