When the LPGA and Epson Tours announced the addition of five extra LPGA Tour cards to be given out via the 2024 Race for the Card, it was also shared that the athletes finishing 11 to 15 would be able to better their status at the Final Qualifying stage of LPGA Q-Series if needed. Of the five players who finished in that range, three of them took the opportunity to go to Final Qualifying, looking for more starts on the LPGA Tour in 2025, one of whom is Miranda Wang.

Wang was 2-under through the first 18 holes of play in Lower Alabama but is now currently sitting in a tie for 56th at 2-over total, needing a big push to better her status next season. Athletes that earned a spot in the 11-15 range of the season-long points competition on the Epson Tour had a decision to make, as evidenced by only three of the five athletes electing to play this week, but there was never a doubt in Wang’s mind about what she would do if she fell in one of those five spots.

“During the Epson Tour season, I kind of made that decision that if I'd make it to the top 15, but it's like 11 to 15, no matter if it’s 11 or 15, I'll come to play Q-Series,” said Wang. “That decision was made during the season, not after I got the card.”

Wang had a long journey to get to this point, starting on the ANNIKA Women’s All Pro Tour (WAPT) in 2022 and learning how to win professional golf tournaments on the smaller circuit. She won twice while on the WAPT and earned 2022 Player of the Year honors before moving up to the Epson Tour for the 2023 season.

During her rookie season on the Official Qualifying Tour of the LPGA, Wang picked up her first Epson Tour win at the 2023 IOA Championship and finished at No. 15 in the Race for the Card, falling just five spots short of earning her LPGA Tour card at the time.

Despite not finding herself in the winner’s circle in 2024, the Epson Tour sophomore showed consistency throughout the year. Over the 19-event season, Wang made 16 cuts in 18 starts and recorded six top-10 finishes. But it was the second half of the year that saw Wang put her foot on the gas, as she earned four of those six top 10s in that stretch and walked away with her season-best result of T3 at the Epson Tour Championship at Indian Wells.

And while Wang has proven that she physically has what it takes to compete among the best in the world, it’s her mindset that could make her one of the greats.

"I feel like whatever tour I play on, I try to learn as many things as I can and try to play my best game,” said Wang. “Even when I was on WAPT, I knew that one day I would try to make it on the LPGA Tour. It has always been my goal, so when I was playing WAPT, I tried to take every tournament serious, like I'm playing against the best.

“Luckily, I won twice on WAPT and won on the Epson Tour, too. I feel like I played through some tough conditions on those tours and also had the experience of winning. I played some good golf under pressure, so I feel like my next goal is to win on the next tour.”

With that big, new goal of winning on the LPGA Tour in mind, the 25-year-old will need to put together two more solid rounds at Magnolia Grove Golf Course – one to help her make the cut and one to vault her into the top 25.

But even if the soon-to-be LPGA Tour rookie finds herself outside of the top 25 at the end of the tournament, Wang’s goal still remains a possibility next year, thanks to her performance on the Road to the LPGA.
