Haeran Ryu has quickly made herself a home on the LPGA Tour as one of the most consistent performers over the last two years.

But now, she said, she’s got a real home of her own.

“Finally, I buy a new home in Las Vegas,” Ryu said with a smile after finishing third at the TOTO Japan Classic and having next week off. “I want to look around the neighborhood and buy some good something in my house. I'm so excited.”

Ryu has had plenty of reasons to be excited this season, her sophomore campaign on the LPGA Tour after winning the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year award in 2023.

The 23-year-old won the FM Championship in August, one of an incredible 13 top-10 finishes so far this season. Her third-place effort in Japan comes right after Ryu finished third at the Maybank Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

She also finished in a tie for sixth at the BMW Ladies Championship to kick off her Asia Swing. Ryu has been on a heater through the summertime, with just two finishes outside the top 10 since The Amundi Evian Championship.

Ryu said she has been laser-focused mentally as of late, which has allowed her to play freely. She said she’s hitting her driver well, knocking her irons close to the pin and minimizing her bogeys.

“I think everything is so calm,” Ryu said. “My golf is so calm these days, and that (helps me) make a lot of birdies and a good score.”

The numbers are backing up Ryu’s thoughts. According to KPMG Performance Insights, Ryu was fifth on the LPGA Tour in strokes gained total ahead of the TOTO Japan Classic and first in strokes gained tee to green, as well as second in strokes gained approach. She is also 13th on Tour in bogey avoidance.

Ryu fired a 6-under 66 Sunday at Seta Golf Course, tied for the low round of the day with Marina Alex. Alex and Rio Takeda finished at 15-under total, and Takeda ultimately emerged victorious on the sixth playoff hole – the longest playoff of the season on the LPGA Tour.

Ryu was 4-under through her first 10 holes before making an unfortunate bogey on the par-4 12th. She bounced back with a birdie on her very next hole, however, before adding two more birdies on the par-5 16th and par-5 18th holes.

The two-time LPGA Tour winner said she was just focusing on her golf and her own score – and she didn’t know where she was on the leaderboard until the 16th hole. Surprisingly, she found out from her manager that she was tied for first at that point.

Takeda ended up pulling away with an eagle on No. 16 and a closing birdie to tie Alex, whose birdie attempt to win in regulation on the par-5 18th slid by.

Still, Ryu notched another impressive result as she creeps closer to winning the AON Risk Reward Challenge. She is in second behind Jeeno Thitikul with the end of the 2024 season well within reach. Along with the title is a $1 million prize, which Ryu said would go a long way to help her buy something for that new house.

As Ryu gets settled in Las Vegas, she knows there is still some golf left to be played this year and will be looking to continue her excellent play and maybe knock off the biggest win of her career at the CME Group Tour Championship.

“My golf is really good,” Ryu said. “Always a top 10 or top five or top five and then almost getting a win. I just want to keep going.”
