19-year-old from Chinese Taipei won the 2024 Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific

THE WOODLANDS, Texas (Feb. 7, 2024) – Chun-Wei Wu of Chinese Taipei, winner of the 2024 Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific, has secured a spot in The Chevron Championship, the first LPGA major of the year, taking place at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas, on April 18-21, 2024.

Wu, 19, captured the 2024 Women’s Amateur Asia Pacific on Sunday, Feb. 4, at Siam Country Club’s Waterside Course in Pattaya, Thailand. Wu started strong, setting the championship’s best 36-hole, middle 36-hole and 54-hole scores to enter the final round with a four-stroke advantage. Sunday, however, proved to be a challenge, as Wu carded four bogeys in her first 14 holes and held just a one-stroke lead with four to play. Clutch birdies at 15 and 17 steadied the young player, who ultimately set one final championship record with her winning 72-hole score of 18-under 270, giving her a two-stroke victory over Korea’s Hyosong Lee.

“It is incredible to win the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific championship,” said Wu following her victory. “I am honored to be invited to play in The Chevron Championship. I will try my best.”

With her win, Wu became the second player from Chinese Taipei to win the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific. Wu can follow in the footsteps of Chinese Taipei player Yani Tseng, who captured the Chevron title in 2010 for her second career major title.

As part of its mission to provide amateurs with greater access and the opportunity to showcase their talent, The Chevron Championship offers six spots for qualifying amateurs from key international amateur tournaments. Wu joins Germany’s Chiara Horder, winner of the 2023 Women’s Amateur Championship; America’s Megan Schofill, winner of the 2023 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship; and Argentina’s Ela Anacona, winner of the 2024 Women’s Latin America Amateur Championship.

The remaining amateur spots will be awarded to the winners of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and the Chevron Silverado Showdown in April.
