SAMMAMISH, Wash. (June 23, 2024) – After waiting 19 years since her first start in a major championship, Amy Yang finally earned her first major victory on Sunday at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and now has a chance to win the 2024 Rolex ANNIKA Major Award.
With her win at the 70th KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, Yang earns 60 points in the 2024 Rolex ANNIKA Major Award Standings and is tied with Nelly Korda and Yuka Saso for the top spot. Back in April, Korda was the winner of the first major of the season, The Chevron Championship, after defeating Maja Stark by two shots to earn the second major title of her career. Twenty-two-year-old Saso won her second career major championship at the U.S. Women’s Open just a month ago at Lancaster Country Club.
In her 75th career start in a major championship, Yang pulled away from the field early in the final round before hanging on to capture a three-shot victory at Sahalee Country Club. It was a triumph that had been long awaited by the 34-year-old, who had previously tallied 21 top-10 finishes in major championships including two runner-up results at the U.S. Women’s Open.
The Rolex ANNIKA Major Award recognizes the player who, during the current LPGA Tour season, has the most outstanding record in all five major championships. Points will be awarded at all five major championships to competitors who finish among the top 10 and ties. In order to earn the award by year’s end, a player must win at least one of the five major titles.
The winner of the Rolex ANNIKA Major Award will be announced following the conclusion of the AIG Women’s Open and will be honored in November at the Rolex LPGA Awards at the CME Group Tour Championship.
