Amelia Lewis' performance at the Hartford HealthCare Women's Championship was truly exceptional. The 33-year-old golfer dominated the final round, shooting the lowest round of the day (-8), and challenged the second-round leader and eventual champion Daniela Iacobelli. What makes this feat even more remarkable is that Lewis achieved all this with a volunteer caddie - Andrew Carroll, Sr. Director of Practice Strategy Operations of Hartford HealthCare Medical Group.
While the championship victory eluded her, Lewis's experience was far from disappointing. She leaves the tournament with positive memories, a bolstered sense of confidence, and a deep-seated pride in her performance. Reflecting on her final round, Lewis couldn't help but express her gratitude for Carroll, her volunteer caddie.
"He was so great. He was so positive for all three days," said Lewis following her final round. "He was here all day because we had to start early this morning, and it was cool to have someone from the company working. I hope to have him back again next year."
The Floridian also broke the tournament's 18-hole scoring record, previously held by multiple players at 6-under, with her final round 8-under 64. The stellar second-place performance marks Lewis' best of the season and put her 12th in the Race for the Card Standings.
"It's my first time here, and I love this course," said Lewis. "I kind of figured something out with my putting. To shoot my low-round here for the year and have the scoring record, it feels great and builds confidence for the rest of the year.
Lewis, a member of the LPGA and Epson Tours in 2024, decided to concentrate on the official qualifying tour. This strategic move was aimed at earning her LPGA Tour card at the end of the season and improving her status for 2025. The Hartford HealthCare Women's Championship served as a validation of her decision. With seven events remaining on the Epson Tour schedule, Lewis is a player to watch until further notice.
