After tying for 10th at The Amundi Evian Championship, Ally Ewing has become the third American player to mathematically clinch a spot on the U.S. Solheim Cup Team.
The T10 was Ewing’s fifth consecutive top-10 finish on the LPGA Tour and is her third top-10 result at a major championship in that same span, as she tied for third at the U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally and tied for fifth at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
Ewing has earned a total of 11 top-10 finishes since the Qualifying Period for the 2024 Solheim Cup began at the 2023 Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. Five of those came during the 2023 season, with Ewing’s best finish last year being a solo fourth in her title defense at the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G.
She has earned one other top-five result this year, tying for fourth at the season-opening Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, in addition to her five straight top 10s.
The 31-year-old Mississippi native will be making her fourth Solheim Cup appearance at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, having also played on the U.S. Team in 2019, 2021 and 2023. Ewing has a 3-8-1 record in her three previous Solheim Cups, earning 3.5 total points for the Americans.
U.S. Captain Stacy Lewis, who selected Ewing as a captain’s pick at Finca Cortesin, knows that her experience will bring a lot to the 2024 team and that Ewing’s propensity for leadership will serve as an inspiration to her younger counterparts in Gainesville, Va.
“I’m really excited for Ally, to have her qualified again this year,” said Lewis. “She is a great leadership voice to have in the team room, and she’s just a great personality to have around. The level of golf she’s been playing in the last month or so might be the best among the American players – top-10 finishes in her last five starts, with three majors in there.
“She’s just been playing great golf all year, making every cut this season. We’re definitely excited to have her back on the team and look forward to her having a great Solheim Cup.”
Ewing joins Nelly Korda and Lilia Vu as the third American clincher in the last month. Korda’s six 2024 victories helped lock in her spot, while Vu’s win at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give qualified her for her second Solheim Cup in late June.
The 2024 Solheim Cup will be played from Sept. 13-15 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va. For more information, please visit https://www.solheimcupusa.com/.
