The Amundi Evian Championship is where major history is made on the LPGA Tour.

In 2014, Hyo Joo Kim opened with a round of 61 for the lowest 18-hole score ever recorded in a major championship.

In 2016, In Gee Chun set a new 72-hole winning total, the lowest score by a male or female in a major championship, with her 21-under par victory.

And in 2021, Minjee Lee matched the largest come from behind victory in women’s major history when she overcame a seven-stroke deficit to capture the Amundi Evian Championship.

Jennifer Kupcho returns to Evian les Bains chasing history of her own.

Fresh off her third win of the season, the 25-year-old looks to become the first American since Juli Inkster to win two majors in a single season. The last time that happened was in 1999, when Inkster won both the U.S. Women’s Open and KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

This year, Kupcho won the season’s first major at the Chevron Championship for her breakthrough victory on the LPGA Tour. She added a second title to her resume in June with her playoff victory over Nelly Korda and Leona Maguire at the Meijer LPGA Classic. And last weekend, she recorded a third win of the season alongside teammate Lizette Salas at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational.

A proven winner under pressure on different venues and in a variety of formats, Kupcho is a likely favorite at the Amundi Evian Championship. The American is not only on form but is returning to a place where she’s found success. In 2019, just three months after her dazzling victory at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, Kupcho carded a final round 66 at the Evian Resort Course to finish tied for second.

But making history won't be easy as Kupcho faces one of the strongest fields of the season with the world’s best descending on Evian les Bains for the ninth playing of the major championship.

Nestled in the Alps high above the shore of Lake Geneva, this year the Amundi Evian Championship offers a guaranteed payday to all players who make the trip to France along with an increased purse of $6.5 million. In May, Minjee Lee captured the biggest payday in the women’s game at the U.S. Women’s Open when she took home nearly $2 million for her victory. She’ll be a formidable defending champion as she joins Kupcho as the only other multiple winner so far in 2022.

The field also features top-ranked Jin Young Ko, who is making her return to Evian, where she won in 2019. Despite winning in her season debut, the world No. 1 has largely been a non-factor in the biggest events of the year. Nelly Korda, who made her return to competition in June after a four-month hiatus away to cope with a blood clot, remains in search of her first win of the season. She arrives in France on form, fresh off a final round 61 on her own ball while teaming with her sister, Jessica, at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational.

From record scores to thrilling final rounds, the Amundi Evian Championship has produced some of the most exciting golf in major history. And Kupcho has a chance to add her mark to the growing list of memorable moments that have been made in Evian les Bains.

Since 2018, only five players have won three times in a single season while making one of those victories a major. Kupcho is one of them. What is particularly special about this group? Besides Kupcho, the other four players each reached No. 1 in the world.
