"A New Breed of Golf,” Michael Breed’s PGA TOUR radio show listen to Whan’s appearance here:
Given the evolving 2020 schedule and the accommodations that everyone in the world is making as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan continues making the media rounds in an attempt to keep the public updated.
On Friday, Whan appeared on “A New Breed of Golf,” Michael Breed’s PGA TOUR radio show on SiriusXM, the first of what will likely be weekly appearances.
During the segment, Whan acknowledged that, given the schedule modifications, “2020 will be the year of the asterisk.” He also said, “My athletes and teachers are handling this better than the commissioner… I probably took the LPGA a little bit for granted the last couple of years. We have a full schedule; we’re televised all over the world; we have a fanbase worldwide; the fact that we grow every year was almost inevitable. And this break makes me really miss it. I hope it makes the fans miss it.
“I can promise you we’ve been a Tour for 70 years and no COVID, no travel ban, no lockdown is going to keep us from being a tour for the next 70 years. So, have patience but I promise you we’ll be back better than ever.”
