Sung Hyun Park and Jenny Shin both had a handful of holes to complete on Saturday morning at Old American Golf Club when the first-round resumed at 8:30 a.m. They turned in matching 6-under, 65's to share the opening round lead at the Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic.

The tournament was reduced to a 36-hole official event on Friday afternoon due to the cancellation on Thursday and long delays on Friday.

Park, a two-time winner in 2017, made five birdies on her outward nine on Friday and completed her round with four pars on Saturday. It is her second lowest round of 2018 (8-under in the second round of ANA Inspiration).

"I tried to rest, but then I got to the course during the delay so it was pretty frustrating, but all the players are going through the same thing," said Park about the last 48 hours. "You really can't help the weather so you just have to be patient to start playing."

Friday afternoon and Saturday morning conditions were perfect for scoring.

Park's driving accuracy and putting were the keys to her round. She hit 12 of 13 fairways and attempted just 24 putts.

"My driver shots and putting felt really good and I was able to create a lot of birdie opportunities," said Park. "Those chip shots to make birdie were key for me today."

The World No. 5 will now rest up and prepare for Sunday's final round.

Meanwhile, Shin closed her round with two birdies on Saturday morning to turn in a bogey-free gem.

"I'm really happy, despite all the waiting, I think we got the better end of the wave because yesterday's conditions were absolutely flawless with no wind and they set up the golf course for a 30 mile an hour wind so it was much easier," explained Shin, who won in Texas in 2016. "I had a bogey free round so I'm feeling really good."

Shin calculated her wait time over the last 48 hours at 18 hours.

"I waited in my car for the first nine hours on Thursday and then yesterday I saw the forecast before I went to sleep and I was not going to wake up early. I woke up and saw the delay, but I'm really glad we got 14 holes in yesterday. The conditions were great and I was able to go for pins so everything turned out great."

Shin said Old American Golf Club feels like a links style golf course, which are her favorite. In fact, her favorite three courses are all links style courses.

While the natural tendency would be to assume Shin just loves playing in Texas, she was a very different player in 2016 when she won in Irving, Texas.

"I had a completely different ball flight then, I was a draw player in 2016 and I'm a fade player now," said Shin. "But, I guess I did win in Texas so we'll see."

The second round will begin on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
