Gaby Lopez is keeping some elite company.
On Wednesday in San Pedro Garza Garcia, Mexico the 2016 Olympian joined Dodgers first baseman Adrián González and boxing champion Canelo Alvarez at Club Campestre de Monterrey. The trio participated in a press conference, golf and baseball clinics. It was the first time Lopez had met the pair but immediately connected with them both.
“I had deep conversations with Canelo about his preparations and mindset. I found that he is such a humble and grateful athlete,” Lopez told LPGA.com. “Adrian is another outstanding athlete. He is the best-paid Mexican athlete in history and talking to him I couldn’t notice how wealthy he really is. He has his feet on the ground. He loves to help people in any way.”
The three Mexican athletes were brought together by Carlos Bremer, from the Shark Tank Mexico TV show, who sought to unite “the best athletes Mexico currently has.” Lopez hopes to follow in the footsteps of González and Alvarez in giving back to her home country.
“I feel so blessed and lucky to have known them and to know what a successful person on and off the court, the field or golf course looks like,” said Lopez. “I have plans like them in the future, helping others and making an impact on people’s lives is one of my goals. Right now it’s difficult to me to start something, but I will.”
Lopez finished T-24 at the season opening Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic. She’ll make her next start at the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open.
