Tour's Best Take On Taiwan

The Tour continues its swing through Asia at this week’s Swinging Skirts LPGA Taiwan Championship, where 17 of the top-25 in the world rankings will compete. World No. 1 So Yeon Ryu headlines the field for the second consecutive week as she looks to hang on to her place atop the rankings. World No. 2 Sung Hyun Park, who is in the field again this week, continues to close the gap on Ryu. With her runner-up finish in Korea, Park has cut Ryu’s lead to .24 in the rankings, which is the slimmest lead Ryu has held since taking over the world No. 1 spot in June. Also in the field is world No. 6 Shanshan Feng, who finished runner-up last season in the midst of an incredible stretch in 2016. She went on to win the next two events and will use this week as a tune-up as she prepares to defend the next two weeks. Rounding out the top-10 in the field this week is No. 9 Lydia Ko, who won in Taiwan in 2015, as well as No. 10 Brooke Henderson, who finished tied for third last year.

She's Back!

Defending champion Ha Na Jang makes a rare return to the LPGA Tour this week in hopes of going back-to-back. The Korean won for the third third time in 2016 with her victory in Taiwan by pulling out a one-stroke victory ahead of Shanshan Feng. Jang has played 10 events on the LPGA Tour this season after rescinding her membership in May to return home to play on the KLPGA and be closer to her family. Before giving up membership, Jang won the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open in February for her fourth win on Tour.

Lewis Returns

This week, Stacy Lewis returns to action at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Taiwan Championship where she is making her first start on Tour since September's Indy Women in Tech Championship. In August, the Houston resident broke through for her first win in three years after announcing at the start of that week she intended to donate her winnings to the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Lewis has limited her playing time during the Asia swing and is making her first start in Taiwan since 2015 when she finished tied for 34^th.

Keep An Eye on Park

When Sung Hyun Park finished in the top-13 in six of seven starts last year, it was clear she’d be a player to watch this season. The rookie has far exceeded the high expectations she brought to the Tour with two wins, so far, including a major victory at the U.S. Women’s Open. Her consistency has earned her six more top-10s and put her in the hunt for all the season’s biggest honors. Park current leads the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the year standings, tops the money list and owns the lowest scoring average. She’s second in the Race to the CME Globe point standings and third in the Player of the Year Race, which is just 11 points behind leader So Yeon Ryu. Lexi Thompson, who currently leads the Race to CME Globe and Park's closest competitor for the Vare Trophy, is not in the field the next two weeks on Tour, giving Park an opportunity further extend her lead and potentially sweep the season ending awards.
