TOWSON, Md. – Lisa Ferrero has been named the new head coach of the Towson University women’s golf team.

An accomplished Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tour member, Ferrero brings a wealth of experience to Towson. She will be the third head coach in Towson women’s golf history. She’s a 12-year member of the LPGA tour and has spent eight years teaching professionally during the offseason.

“We are fortunate and thrilled to have someone of Lisa’s caliber leading our women’s golf program,” Towson University director of athletics Tim Leonard said. “She has an understanding for what it means to compete at the highest level while excelling in the classroom. Her professional experience is a major plus for our student-athletes; Lisa also stood out from a talented candidate pool with her enthusiasm, passion, and vision of building our program into one of the premier in the conference.”

Ferrero inherits a program on the rise and stocked with talent. The Tigers placed fifth at last season’s Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championships, their highest finish in program history.

As a professional, Ferrero continued to excel by winning the 2011 Epson Tour Classic and the 2011 Future Tour Teva Championship. She was also the recipient of the distinguished 2014 Heather Farr LPGA Courage Award. It’s an honor established in the memory of Heather Farr, an LPGA player who died of breast cancer at the age of 28 in 1993.

“I am excited to be the next women’s golf coach at Towson University,” Ferrero said. “It’s an exciting time to open up a new chapter in my golf career. I look forward to sharing my experience with the team and help the program continue its success.”

Throughout her career, Ferrero has demonstrated the values of the award to achieve success. Through her hard work, dedication and love of the game of golf, Ferrero has demonstrated determination, perseverance and spirit in fulfilling her goals as a player and impacting others.

A positive motivator, Ferrero has also assisted the University of Texas with its golf program. She gained experience working with video and swing analysis under Hall of Famer Chuck Cook and Brian Hoel.

She is committed and has prepared for this coaching opportunity. What she derived as an elite student-athlete at Texas -- plus her pro career -- will be applied to help her team achieve its very best in golf, academics and leadership development.”

Ferrero has accomplished plenty since earning her Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology from the University of Texas where she was an accomplished student-athlete. Ferrero was a four-year member of the Big XII Commissioner’s Honor Roll. She was also a two-time All-Big XII second team performer and three-time All-Academic Big XII honoree.

She helped Texas win the 2004 Big XII championship. The Longhorns finished second nationally in 2002, third in 2003 and sixth in 2004. Individually, Ferrero was second at the Big XII championships in 2005 and third in 2004. Ferrero was selected to the NCAA All-Regional team in 2005. She was the 2000 USGA Junior Amateur Champion and named the 2001 California Amateur of the Year.

“I am excited for Lisa to be named the next Head Women’s Golf Coach at Towson University,” LPGA Commissioner Michael Whan said. “She has been a great role model during her professional career on both the LPGA and Epson Tours. Lisa knows a great deal about the game and has had success at both the amateur and professional levels. Towson’s golfers will be in excellent hands under her charge.”
