Sei Young Kim (-7), Ha Na Jang (-7), Charley Hull (-7)
Group 17 – 9:56 a.m. – 1st Tee
Sei Young Kim, Ha Na Jang and Charley Hull head into the weekend in Singapore just three-strokes back of leader Inbee Park. After struggling at the season opening Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic, Kim put in some additional work on her game and its showed in recent weeks – she finished third last week in Thailand and posted a bogey-free, 67 on Friday. Jang got a jumpstart early in her round with an eagle at the par three, fifth hole. She nearly made another at the 16th hole but missed the putt. The defending champ carded a 67 to put herself in position to defend this weekend. Friday, Hull made the most of a tricky weather day. It was too warm for rain gear, so Hull successfully dodged the raindrops, ducking under her umbrella throughout the round, to post a bogey-free, 67.
Michelle Wie (-9), Suzann Pettersen (-8), Sung Hyun Park (-8)
Group 19 – 10:08 a.m. – 1st Tee
First round leader Michelle Wie remains in the hunt heading into the weekend in Singapore. She’s one of three players just one back of Park. She backed up her opening round 66 with a bogey-free, 69. It's the first time since the Blue Bay LPGA in October 2014 that Wie opened with back-to-back rounds in the 60s. She said she woke excited for the round, before her alarm, and remains focused on having fun during the weekend. Pettersen climbed to the top of the leaderboard at 10-under par through 14 holes before dropping shots at the 15th and 17th holes to finish the round with a 67, two-back of the lead. Although Pettersen has missed just two greens this week she’s struggled once she reached the putting surface – making it around in 33 putts on day one and 30 putts on Friday. Rookie Park got off to a tough start with a double bogey at the second hole, but she bounced back with four straight birdies to post a 68.
Inbee Park (-10), Mi Jung Hur (-9), Ariya Jutanugarn (-9)
Group 21 – 10:21 a.m. – 1st Tee
In just her second competitive start since August, former world No. 1 and Olympic gold medalist Inbee Park leads the way in Singapore. Park opened with back-to-back rounds of 67 to take a one-stroke lead at 10-under par. Park last held the 36-hole lead on Tour at this event in 2015 when she won. Hur is making just her third start at the HSBC Women’s Champions and looking to return to the winner’s circle for the first time since 2014. Hur posted a bogey-free, 67 on Friday to sit one-back of Park. World No. 2 Jutanugarn opened with rounds of 67 – 68 to move within one of the lead in Singapore. She’s played solid golf in recent weeks, finishing T-3 in Australia and T-8 last week in her home country of Thailand.
