Where It All Began
This week, Chella Choi returns to the site of her first win at the Marathon Classic Presented by Owens Corning & O-I. Choi defeated Ha Na Jang in a one-hole playoff to earn the first LPGA Victory of her career. An unlikely winner after an opening-round 2-over par 73 which left her sitting tied for 62nd after the round, but she went on to shoot 5-under on day two, 6-under on day three and then finished the week with another 5-under par on Sunday.
Former Champs In The House
In addition to Choi, five former champions of the Marathon Classic Presented by Owens Corning & O-I are in the field this week, including 2014 champion Lydia Ko, 2013 winner Beatriz Recari, 2010 champion Na Yeon Choi, 2008 winner Paula Creamer and 2005 winner Heather Bowie Young.
Looking for Another Win
Twelve players have won on Tour in 2016, nine of which will tee it up this week at the Marathon Classic Presented by Owens Corning & O-I. This season’s multiple winners Ha Na Jang, Haru Nomura, Lydia Ko, and Brooke Henderson are joined this week by first-time winners Jenny Shin and Ariya Jutanugarn, as well as Hyo Joo Kim, Anna Nordqvist and the most recent winner, the U.S. Women’s Open Champion, Brittany Lang.
Rookie Watch
The 2016 rookie class will be well-represented with week with 20 of 29 in the field this week in Ohio; which includes low finishing rookie in last week’s U.S. Women’s Open, Gaby Lopez. In her rookie season on the LPGA Tour, Lopez has made 14 cuts which include six top 20 finishes on the season. The rookie finished the week T-11 at 1-under par, just five strokes back of winner Brittany Lang.
Qualifiers
Jennifer Ha (70) and Sara Detlefsen (71) and earned their way into the field via Monday Qualifying. Ha and Detlefsen are current members of the Epson Tour.
