BOSTON, April 28, 2016 – The Legends Tour and the Epson Tour played simultaneous events in Florida at the Chico’s Patty Berg Memorial in mid-April and will again bring together young pros with legends of the game for a combined event in May at the Self-Regional Healthcare Foundation’s Women’s Health Classic.
The Links at Stoney Point in Greenwood, S.C., will host the tournament for the third year for the Epson Tour, whose record $250,000 72-hole event begins Thursday, May 5, with the final round set for Sunday, May 8.
Twenty-four members of the Legends Tour will play an inaugural 18-hole tournament alongside Epson Tour players during their final round on Sunday, May 8. Players from the two tours will also combine for an 18-hole pro-am on Monday, May 9, with 24 Legends in the field.
The $100,000 18-hole Legends Tour tournament was added to the Epson Tour event this year. Legends Tour members participated in the 2015 event’s pro-am.
LPGA Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez and LPGA veteran Cindy Rarick will host this year’s Legends Tour tournament.
“I am looking forward to playing in Greenwood because it is a peaceful, happy place for me,” said co-host Lopez. “The hospitality of everyone at Stoney Point is fantastic.”
Fellow co-host Rarick added: “I'm looking forward playing alongside the Epson Tour players, as well as participating in the extra activities off the course that surround this first-class event.”
Two Legends in this field have won 18-hole, single-day competitions twice on The Legends Tour. Cindy Figg-Currier won in 2008 and 2010, while Rosie Jones won 18-hole events in 2007 and 2014. Both players are in the tournament field.
“I think getting off to a good start is critical and you need to make putts,” said Jones, of winning the one-round events. “You have to be aggressive, but also know your limits.”
The Legends Tour’s tournament field includes LPGA Hall of Famers Amy Alcott, Nancy Lopez and Hollis Stacy, as well as Legends Tour Hall of Fame members Jane Blalock and Jan Stephenson.
Legends Tour member tee times will alternate with Epson Tour member tee times on Sunday, May 8.
Tickets for the event are $10 each day, with parking available on site at the course. For ticket and tournament information, visit http://www.stoneypointclassic.com.
