The Best of the Best
15 of the top-20 ranked players in the world will tee it up at this week’s Kia Classic. World No.1 Lydia Ko, No.2 Inbee Park and No.3 Lexi Thompson headline the field that includes JTBC Founders Champion and No.5 Sei Young Kim, No.8 Brooke Henderson and defending champion No.14 Cristie Kerr.
Back To Defend
2015 Kia Classic champion Cristie Kerr defends her title this week, her first of two wins last season, having also won the season ending CME Group Tour Championship. Kerr is coming off her best finish of 2016 at last week’s JTBC Founders Cup where she finished in a share of 13th.
Former Champs In The House
In addition to Kerr, four of the five former champions of the Kia Classic are in the field this week, including 2014 champion Anna Nordqvist, 2013 winner Beatriz Recari, 2012 champion Yani Tseng and 2011 winner Sandra Gal. 2010 champion Hee Kyng Seo is the only former winner of this event absent from the field this week.
Qualifiers
Former University of Alabama standout Hanna Collier and Dewi Claire Schreefel (pictured above) earned their way into the field via Monday Qualifying. Collier was a member of the 2012 National Championship Team and now holds duel membership on the Epson and LPGA Tours. Schreefel is looking to make her first cut of 2016 this week in California.
You’re Invited
Sung Hyun Park and Je-Yoon Yang received sponsor invites for this week’s Kia Classic. Park burst onto the scene at the 2015 LPGA KEB HanaBank Championship where she finished T-2 after carding an opening round 10-under par, 62 to set a new course record. Yang is the 2012 KLPGA’s Player of the Year.
