Hometown Favorites
The LPGA Tour is in Texas this week, and the Tour doesn’t have just one hometown favorite, but many hometown favorites this week. There are twelve players in the field this week that call Texas home including Sei Young Kim, who has a LPGA win under her belt this season.
Gerina Piller, a current Texas resident, is looking to build on last week’s performance, her best finish to date this season and her fourth top-10 finish of 2016 as she plays in front of a home crowd. Piller has continued to move up in the Rolex Rankings and is currently sitting in the fourth position in the UL International Crown Standings for Team United States.
World’s Best Returns to Texas
Fifteen of the top-20 in the Rolex Rankings are in the field at this week’s Volunteers of America Texas Shootout Presented by JTBC.
Defending champion Inbee Park will not play this week after withdrawing from last week’s Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic Presented by CTBC due to a ligament injury in her left thumb.
Top-ranked American No.3 Lexi Thompson will tee it up this week, coming off her third consecutive top-10 finish at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic. No.5 Brook Henderson, who is looking to, extended her streak of consecutive top-10 finishes this week, is also in the field.
Welcome To the Lone Star State!
World No.6 In Gee Chun will make her first appearance in Texas this week. Chun is coming off another solid performance in San Francisco and looking to pick up her first win of 2016.
Chun finished T27, her first finish outside the top-3 this season. Chun is currently ranked second in the Top 10 finishes percentage on Tour.
Former Champ Tees it Up
Stacy Lewis 2014 champion of the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout Presented by JTBC will be teeing it up this week looking to pick up her first win since her three-win season in 2014. Lewis has three top-10 finishes thus far in 2016.
Defending champion and 2013 winner Inbee Park is absent from the field this week due to an injury.
Shootout Winners In the Field
On March 16, 100 of the top collegiate and high school amateur golfers teed it up for a chance to earn a spot in the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout Presented by JTBC. The 100 players were narrowed down to four, two high school and two college amateurs qualified for the event.
Texas A&M’s Maddie Szeryk and Alabama’s Cheyenne Knight made it through the qualifying with scores of 73. While Kristen Gillman and Karah Sanford each carded rounds of 72 to earn their way into the field for the high school category.
