Time To Defend

Inbee Park defends her first of five titles in 2016 at this week’s HSBC Women’s Champions. Park put on a clinic at last year’s event, going wire-to-wire without a bogey to clinch her first title of 2015. However, it’s an event where Park has only in recent years found success, struggling to crack into the top-30 early in her career, she has since finished in the top-4 the past two years.

One, Two, Three…

There’s a new trio of players at the top of the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, with Lexi Thompson joining No.1 Lydia Ko and No.2 Inbee Park at the top of the rankings with her victory at the Honda LPGA Thailand.

This week marks the first event of 2016 that both Ko and Park are in the field. The duo finished one and two at the 2015 HSBC Women’s Champions, where Park won her first of five events last season.

Already A Champion

Six of the seven winners of the HSBC Women’s Champions are in the field this week, including 2010 winner Ai Miyazato, 2011 champion Karrie Webb, 2012 winner Angela Stanford, 2013 champ Stacy Lewis, 2014 winner Paula Creamer and defending champion Park. The only champion absent this week is Lorena Ochoa, a two-time winner of this event who won back-to-back in 2008 and 2009.

You’re Invited

Not often seen on the LPGA Tour, two-time European Solheim Cup team member Melissa Reid received one of two sponsor’s invites to compete this week. Reid withdrew from last week's Ladies European Tour Event, the RACV Ladies Masters in Australia. She finished 91st in her only other start in 2016 at the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open. The other invite went to 2010 champion Ai Miyazato, who is looking to crack the top-50 for the first time this season.
