The most recent major champion on the LPGA Tour, Ariya Jutanugarn, will play alongside amateur Julia Engstrom and In Gee Chun during the opening rounds of the Evian Championship. The world No.2 is making just her second start in this event this week after finishing T-46 in 2015. Engstrom is looking to make her first cut on Tour after missing the cut at the U.S. Women’s Open and RICOH Women’s British Open earlier this season. Chun is making her third start in this event where she has struggled in years past, missing the cut last season and finishing in a share of 65th in 2014.
Sei Young Kim, Cristie Kerr, In Kyung Kim
Thursday – 9:02 a.m. – 10th Tee
Sei Young Kim will look to pick up her first major victory this week, playing alongside LPGA veteran Cristie Kerr and In Kyung Kim. Sei Young is already a two-time winner in 2016 and is making her second start in this event after finishing T-11 in 2015. Kerr on the other hand is looking to find a spark in Evian where she has struggled in recent years, missing the cut in two of her last three starts. In Kyung Kim arrives in Evian with some momentum, coming off a victory on the Ladies European Tour last week where she won the ISPS Handa Ladies European Masters for the second time in three starts.
Brittany Lang, Eun Jeong Seong, Brooke Henderson
Thursday – 12:58 p.m. – 1st Tee
Reigning U.S. Women’s Open champion Brittany Lang will play alongside amateur Eun Jeon Seong and reigning KPMG Women’s PGA Championship winner Brooke Henderson during the first two rounds of the Evian Championship. Lang is looking to bounce back in this event after missing the cut last year with rounds of 71 – 79. Seong is making her second start of the year on the LPGA Tour, having missed the cut at the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open earlier this season. Henderson will look to pick up her third win of the season this week and improve on her T-25 showing in her first playing of this event in 2015.
Lydia Ko, Hyo Joo Kim, Suzann Pettersen
Thursday – 1:20 p.m. – 1st Tee
Since becoming a major, the Evian Championship has been won by Suzann Pettersen, Hyo Joo Kim and Lydia Ko, who will all be playing together during the first two rounds of this year’s event. Ko is the defending champion, who fired a final round 63 to become the youngest major champion in LPGA Tour history and win her first major title. She hasn’t finished outside the top-8 in her three starts in this event and is already a four-time winner in 2016. Kim captured the Evian Championship in 2014 thanks in large part to a record breaking opening round 61. She won the first event of 2016 at the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic. Pettersen won this event in 2013 and came close to defending her title two weeks ago at the Manulife LPGA Classic where she finished T-5 for her sixth top-10 of the year.
Shanshan Feng, Lexi Thompson, Sung Hyun Park
Thursday – 1:42 p.m. – 1st Tee
Olympic bronze medalist Shanshan Feng, Lexi Thompson and Sung Hyun Park are grouped together in the first two rounds of the Evian Championship. Feng is making her first start on Tour since winning the bronze medal and could likely pick up another piece of hardware this week with four top-11 finishes in this event. Thompson has also played well in Evian where she hasn’t finished outside the top-10 in her last three starts. Park, a non-member on the LPGA Tour, has played well in her six starts, finishing outside the top-13 just once and held the lead at the U.S. Women’s Open earlier this season.
