The Epson Tour always takes U.S. Women’s Open week off to give players an opportunity to qualify. There are 12 in the field this week at CordeValle that have played on the Epson Tour in 2016 including the top two players on the Volvik Race for the Card money list – No. 1 Madelene Sagstrom and No. 2 Jackie Stoelting. Both have already captured two Epson Tour victories in 2016 and are well on their way to a spot on the LPGA in 2017.
Sagstrom will compete in her first U.S. Women’s Open while Stoelting has qualified for her second. She made the cut back in 2013 and finished 68th.
Peiyun Chien of Chinese Taipei is the third player in the top 10 (No. 7) that will tee it up at the U.S. Women’s Open. Chien doesn’t have a win yet on the Epson Tour, but does have six top 10 finishes.
Sophia Popov of Germany, who ranks 14th on the money list, is also in California this week. She has three top 10 finishes this season.
Other 2016 Epson Tour players that are in the U.S. Women’s Open include: Sandra Angulo Minarro, Liv Cheng, Ssu-Chia Cheng, Paula Hurtado, Sue Kim, Nelly Korda, and Nicole Broch Larsen.
Cheng of New Zealand could cement her spot in the 2016 Olympic Games with a strong performance at the U.S. Women’s Open. She currently ranks No. 57 on the International Golf Federation rankings and the top 60 as of July 11 qualify.
