Nancy Lopez Seeks to Inspire the Next Generation
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., June 6, 2016 – The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Foundation announced today that they will be hosting their fifth annual LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Academy on July 17-19, 2016 at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove in Asheville, NC. The 65 Academy participants are all active Girls Golf members from some of the 360 Girls Golf sites across the country.
“We are so excited to once again bring our LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Academy to the Asheville area,” said Nancy Henderson, President of the LPGA Foundation. "The Cliffs at Walnut Cove is the perfect location for the girls to not only expand their golf abilities but also gain lifelong friendships with fellow participants.”
Several girls have been awarded grants thanks to contributions provided by the USGA Women’s Committee members, helping to make this event accessible and affordable for all girls.
Breanne Hall, the new Head Golf Coach of the UNC-Asheville’s first-ever women’s golf team, will head up a team of more than 15 LPGA top Teaching Professionals who will provide instruction to the girls participating in the Academy. The goal is to not only teach the girls proper stance and swing but also to stress the importance of a healthy lifestyle and provide them with the tools to leave energized and prepared to meet the challenges of today’s world.
"I am very excited to have the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Academy in the Asheville area for the third year in a row,” said Breanne Hall, Head Coach of the UNC-Asheville Women’s Golf Team. “It is an extremely rewarding opportunity to be able to teach these young girls and observe the progress that takes place during the two-day academy."
LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame member, Nancy Lopez, will return to give an exhibition clinic for the girls. Lopez serves on the LPGA Foundation Board and continues to inspire girls to believe that anything is possible.
If you know a young girl, between the ages of 6 – 12, who would be interested in becoming a member, she can join Girls Golf at www.girlsgolf.org.
