Pick the easiest hole on any LPGA course and that’s where you’re likely to see the most money earned for the Wounded Warrior Weekend.
That was the case again last week at the JTBC Founders Cup in Phoenix, Ariz. The par-5 15th hole at Wildfire Golf Club is a straight, 485-yard hole with no fairway bunkers that was usually reachable in two shots. The hole gave up 11 eagles for the week, including five in the final round. The second-easiest hole on the course, the 510-yard par-5 fifth hole, gave up two eagles on Sunday, adding to the WWP total.
Among those five who made eagle on No. 15 in the final round were Ilhee Lee, Hee Young Park, Julie Yang, Cheyenne Woods and Sei Young Kim.
Through six tournaments, there have been 40 eagles in the final two rounds of competition, bringing the total to $40,000. Of the 40 eagles, five have been eagles on par 4s.
The Wounded Warrior Weekend takes place during the final two rounds at LPGA tournaments, with CME Group donating $1,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project for each eagle that is recorded. This amount will increase to $5,000 for each eagle during the weekend of the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship and a formal check will be presented to the Wounded Warrior Project during the trophy ceremony. For the 2014 season, 283 eagles were made on the weekend, raising $283,000. While no eagles were made on the weekend in Naples, the CME Group generously rounded up to $300,000. The 2014 season also had a lot of aces and double eagles. Of the 31 holes in one, 15 came in weekend play. Of a record four double eagles during the year, three were scored on the weekend.
