The second season of the Race to the CME Globe is just beginning, but already the numbers 3 and 9 are important positions to remember. Eight months from now, when the CME Group Tour Championship is held in Naples, Fla., players that fall within those numbers will be very excited.
- 3: The top three seeds can win the $1 million bonus and the season-long CME Globe title with a victory at the final event the week before Thanksgiving. Last year, Lydia Ko entered the tournament in third place, behind Stacy Lewis and Inbee Park, and won the event, thereby capturing $1 million at the $500,000 first-place check. As of this week, the top three would be Ko, Amy Yang and Park.
- 9: Only the top nine players in the standings can capture the CME Globe title. Positions four through nine can win it all with a victory and assistance from those ahead of them. This week’s nine players include Ko, Yang, Park, Sei Young Kim, Stacy Lewis, Na Yeon Choi, Ariya Jutanugarn, Jessica Korda and Sun Young Yoo.
The Race to the CME Globe is a season-long points competition in which LPGA Members accumulate points in every Official LPGA Tournament. At the end of the season, the winning player will be named the “Race to the CME Globe Champion.” The competition began at the Coates Golf Championship, continues through the Lorena Ochoa Invitational Presented by Banamex in Mexico and concludes with a points reset for the CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida the week before Thanksgiving.
