Now that we’ve reached the halfway point of the season and are heading into the U.S Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club, let's take a look back at the season’s first two exciting majors, the ANA Inspiration and the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
At the ANA Inspiration, all eyes were on Lydia Ko to become the youngest major champion in LPGA Tour history, but a resurgent Morgan Pressel was looking to win the ANA Inspiration for a second time. Pressel became the youngest major champion in LPGA history in 2007 when she took the leap into Poppie’s Pond at the age of 18. However, it was another former winner Brittany Lincicome, who would take the plunge behind a repeat of her great eagle on 18 in 2009, this time to force a playoff with Stacy Lewis. The gutsy Lewis battled for two playoff holes before succumbing to Lincicome on their third trip down 18 earning Brittany her second major championship.
It seemed like Déjà vu in New York as Lexi Thompson joined Lincicome and Pressel in the hunt on Sunday, but in the end it was Inbee Park who wrapped up her third-consecutive KPMG Women’s PGA Championship firing a bogey-free, 68, to finish at 19-under for the event five shots clear of Sei Young Kim.
Looking forward to Lancaster, three players have posted top-10 finishes in each of the LPGA’s first two majors of the 2015 season: Brittany Lincicome (fourth KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, won ANA Inspiration), and Morgan Pressel (tied-fifth KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, tied-four ANA Inspiration), Lexi Thompson (third KPMG Women's PGA Championship, seventh at ANA Inspiration).
