This week’s Blue Bay LPGA is shaping up to be the toughest event of the year.

With the combination of windy conditions and severely undulating greens, only five players are under par through 36-holes in China. Played on the Jian Lake Blue Bay Golf Course on the southern coastline of China’s Hainan Island, winds have gusted upwards of 20 miles per hour during the event, with scores even higher in round two at an average of 75.69. In total, 15 sub-par rounds that have been carded over the course of the first two rounds.

Mother Nature has been the common thread in creating the toughest scoring conditions this season. Swinging Skirts LPGA, ShopRite LPGA Classic and the U.S. Women’s Open rank as the toughest so far this year with the final winning score at 8-under par. At each of these events, weather and wind played a factor and also delays.

Sei Young Kim currently leads Blue Bay LPGA through 36-holes at 2-under par. Lydia Ko was at 5-under par through two rounds before winning at Swinging Skirts. Anna Nordqvist was at 6-under par through 36-holes, but the event was only three rounds. In Gee Chun was 2-under through 36-holes and eventually won at 8-under for the championship.
