If winning twice in 11 events is considered by Inbee Park a good warm up, then what does the summer hold for the No. 2 player in the world?

With victories at the 2015 HSBC Women’s Champions and Volunteers of America North Texas Shootout, the former world number one says she’s peaking just in time for the all important summer stretch that kicks off this week as she defends her title at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

“The last few weeks have been a good confidence boost for me,” Park said Tuesday. “This is probably the second best season I’ve ever had. I’m not really a quick starter, but this season has started very good and hopefully wrap it up really nicely with these big tournaments coming up.”

Should Park defend this week, she would make history as just the second player in the 60-year history of the tournament to win three consecutive years. Annika Sorenstam was the first to do so, winning 2003 – 2005.

“Obviously I’ve never done anything three times in a row before, well, a couple majors, but three times like defending three times, never done that before, so that would be very special for me,” said Park.

It’s taken a player with a well-rounded game to win this championship back-to-back, now having been played at three different venues in three years. All aspects of Park’s game will be tested this week at Westchester Country Club if she wants to three-peat.

“Locust Hill was very narrow fairways and the accuracy was the key for that golf course,” Park said. “But the Monroe golf course was a bit different, a little bit wider fairways and not much off the tee, but you have to work around the greens. This golf course is probably a bit of everything. You have to be accurate off the tee. You have to be accurate with the irons, and you have to putt really well.”

With a win Park would receive not only the trophy but also retake the number one spot in the Rolex Women’s Golf Rankings, which she lost to Lydia Ko following the season opener. She’s closed the gap on Ko in recent weeks with six top-11 finishes and not one performance outside T-18 this season.

“I don’t feel that much pressure going back to No. 1 or being No. 2,” Park said. “I like to be there when I’m ready and my game is good. There’s no rush to it.”

Park’s game is good. Maybe she should start getting ready.
