Daniel Reaches Milestone
Beth Daniel captured the 25th of her 33 career victories at the 1990 Centel Classic in Tallahassee, Florida at Killearn Country Club, the inaugural year for the event. Daniel defeated Nancy Lopez by one stroke to win at 17-under par. Daniel’s 33 wins puts her 15th on the All-Time Career Wins list.
Sorenstam Goes Back-to-Back In Pennsylvania
Annika Sorenstam made it back-to-back wins with her victory at the 1997 CoreStates Betsy King Classic for her 11th career win. Sorenstam dominated in her first win at Berkleigh Country Club, winning by 8-strokes ahead of Laura Davies in 1996. Her second win was a little closer, with Sorenstam defeating Kelly Robbins by two strokes.
Lucky Number Three
Lorena Ochoa won her first of three victories at the Corona Morelia Championship in 2006 at Tres Marias Residential Golf Club in Mexico. The win marked the seventh of Ochoa’s career and she later won the event again in back-to-back years in 2008 and 2009.
Lost Bet Leads to Win
In 2007, Suzann Pettersen won the third event of her LPGA career in thrilling fashion at the Longs Drugs Challenge. Pettersen defeated Lorena Ochoa with a birdie on the second playoff hole for the win and found extra satisfaction in getting redemption for a lost bet the previous week at the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic.
“I lost to Lorena last week in a bet we had, so I guess I evened it out this week,” said Pettersen after her victory.
World No.1 Wins…Again
Yani Tseng won her sixth of seven events and the 11th victory of her career at the 2011 LPGA-KEB Hana Bank Championship. The World No.1 defeated Na Yeon Choi by one stroke to capture the 54-hole event, which later was extended to 72 holes.
“Like this year, I always tell myself to keep my chest up and always keep smile, and if I smile always, that means I enjoy it on the golf course and makes me very relax. And the more relaxed I am, I can play getter golf, too,” Tseng said after her win.
