Fans need not look back very far to find some of the most memorable moments in the Solheim Cup, many of those involving players from this year's teams. Here's a look back at some of the major moments in the history of the matches that involve members of the 2015 teams.
Charley Challenges Creamer
A captain’s pick in 2013 for Team Europe, Charley Hull made quite an impression in her first matches. Hull won just one point for her team over the course of the first two days, but it was what she did Sunday that she’ll be most remembered for. Hull earned the first point for her team during the Sunday’s singles matches by defeating Team U.S.A. veteran Paula Creamer 5&4 and then approached Creamer after the matches for an autograph for a friend.
Inkster Leading By Example
Captain Juli Inkster is a nine-time member of Team U.S.A., having won 18 ½ points for her team between 1992 and 2011. Inkster played particularly well in the Sunday singles with a record of 6-1-2. Her overall record of 15-12-7 is the third most winning record in the history of the Solheim Cup, behind Laura Davies and Annika Sorenstam.
An Ace for Anna
Anna Nordqvist made history during the 2013 Solheim Cup at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, Colorado. During the Saturday morning foursomes matches, Nordqvist made a hole in one at the par 3, 17th, the first in the history of the Solheim Cup. Playing alongside partner Caroline Hedwall, the duo went on to win their match, defeating Morgan Pressel and Jessica Korda 2&1.
Wie a Winning Rookie
A rookie and captain’s pick in 2009, Michelle Wie earned her rightful place on Team U.S.A. with an impressive performance at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
Just the second rookie to play on the team, Wie pull out a halve alongside Morgan Pressel in the Friday fourball, dominated 5&4 with Christina Kim in the Saturday fourball and won 1-up with Cristie Kerr on Saturday afternoon. Wie capped off her week by defeating Solheim Cup veteran Helen Alfredsson in the Sunday singles.
Hedwall Makes History
A captain’s pick in both 2011 and 2013, Caroline Hedwall has mounted an impressive record for Team Europe. Hedwall went 2-1-1 in her first appearance at Killeen Castle in Ireland before making history in 2013 at Colorado Golf Club with a perfect 5-0-0 record for the week, a first in the Solheim Cup.
