This week’s TOTO Japan Classic is the fifth and final event of this year’s Asia Swing, and if it’s anything like the first four events it is sure to produce some great golf. Here’s a look back at the thrilling and even history making golf that was played in the first four events of the swing.
Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia
After starting off the season with a T-2 at the Coates Golf Championship, Jessica Korda was a non-factor most of the season. That all changed at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia where Korda held off a charge by Lydia Ko in the final round, including four birdies in nine holes, to capture her fourth victory on the LPGA Tour. Korda put together four consecutive rounds in the 60’s to win by four strokes at 18-under par for the championship.
LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship
Lexi Thompson won her second title of 2015 at the LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship, carding three birdies in her first nine holes on Sunday to win by one-stroke ahead of Yani Tseng and Sung Hyun Park. Amy Yang made history that week with nine consecutive birdies on her back nine on Sunday, a first in the history of the game.
Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship
Lydia Ko returned to the No.1 spot in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Ranking with her victory at the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship. Ko ran away from the field, winning by nine strokes at 20-under par, the largest margin of victory in 2015. The win marked the 10th for Ko on the LPGA Tour, making her at 18 years of age the youngest to reach the milestone. So Yeon Ryu and Eun Hee Ji finished tied for second at 11-under par.
Blue Bay LPGA
Rookie Sei Young Kim has a flare for the dramatics when it comes to winning on the LPGA Tour and her third victory of the season delivered once again. Kim chipped in at the 10th hole after finding the water hazard, saving par to stay in the mix. Then with a chance to win at the 18th hole, Kim drained an eight footer for birdie on the 72nd hole to win at 2-under par, one-ahead of Stacy Lewis, Kim Kaufman and Candie Kung.
