Missing Number One

16 of the top 25 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings will make their start this week at the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship, including No.2 Lydia Ko, No.3 Stacy Lewis and No.5 So Yeon Ryu.

The biggest name missing from the field is World No.1 Inbee Park who is also the defending champion, but with a change in schedule was unable to play due to a prior commitment. With Ko nipping at her heels to retake the top spot in the world, Ko may just get it done this week given Park’s absence.

Also missing from the field is World No.4 Lexi Thompson who won for the second time this season just last week at the LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship.

Take Two

11 of the top-12 on the leaderboard in 2014 return for another shot at the title this week in Taiwan, including fourth place finisher Azahara Munoz, who also finished runner-up in 2013 and in a share of second with Amy Yang in 2011. Yang is coming off a historic run in Korea and is looking to better her top-5 finish in this event last year.

Welcome to Asia!

This week marks the third of five Asia Swing events and several players are teeing it up for the first time since the Evian Championship. Both Kelly Shon and Jennifer Song made their way into the field after Cristie Kerr and Jane Park withdrew. Marina Alex, Beatriz Recari and Alena Sharp are also making their debut in this year’s Asia Swing.

15 members of the TLPGA make up the field this week in Taipei, including Yu-Ling Hsieh who finished T-29 in this event last season, Phoebe Yao who posted a T-46 finish in 2014, Pei-Ying Tsai and Pei-Lin Yu who were both T-54 last season.
