During the Kingsmill Championship Presented by JTBC many divots were made, ever wonder the best way to repair the divot?

The LPGA joins the many professional golf Tours and golf associations around the world that want to be an example of how to, not only play this great game we call golf, but to respect its traditions and etiquettes. Care for a golf course is a very important principle and “leaving the golf course better than you found it” is the age old adage in which most golfers believe. That includes replacing and/or filling your divots after a stroke, along with repairing the ball marks you make on the greens, and one or two of someone else’s that they may have forgotten to fix.

When it comes to divots specifically, different types of grasses require different methods of care. A divot taken in the north will continue to grow after being displaced if it is replaced correctly, however, a divot taken in the south will not continue to grow after being displaced so they fill their divot holes with sand. The last two LPGA events have been played in Texas and Virginia where the southern grass known as Bermudagrass is used. Divots taken from Bermudagrass are the type that will not continue to grow so they are filled with sand to level the surface while the grass goes through the natural process of repairing the area. The players know this fact so they don’t replace their divots when playing on Bermudagrasses but they do when they play on the northern grasses. The holes left by the players are filled with sand by the maintenance staff after each round.

Respect for the etiquettes and traditions of the game of golf are taught quite well at the junior level around the world, as they should.
