Fun with friends before home stretch
As the LPGA’s final off week winds down with the Ryder Cup raging on, players have been busy and also tuned in to what is transpiring in Scotland.
A number of LPGA players are even there in person, including 2015 European Solheim Cup Captain Carin Koch, who has been touring the grounds, did an interview with Sky Sports that was shown on the big screen. Dottie Pepper and her patriotic cast hammed it up with U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Tom Watson at the Junior Ryder Cup, while Karen Stupples was set up in the media center.
Pepper ran into Mary Bea Porter King in Scotland as well, Jessica Korda felt patriotic after seeing a pair of bald eagles in the trees in her back yard, and Koch took this picture bright and early Friday morning. Golf Channel’s Kelly Tilghman captured this amazing shot there as well, Koch got this one of the 18th green and this one of herself and European Captain Paul McGinley and did an interview with BBC 5 Live.
Koch also did some shopping, did another BBC Radio interview and ran into some rowdy German fans and these decked-out European enthusiasts, while Morgan Pressel had her own Ryder Cup command center set up on Saturday.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, who attended Stanford like Michelle Wie, got in on the fun of Wie’s photo contest by taking this shot reading the Golf Digest that features Wie on the cover. Wie took this cool photo of New York City from her recent visit there, Sandra Gal attended Oktoberfest in Germany, and Pressel shared this photo of herself and Cristie Kerr from Kerr’s Birdies for Breast Cancer charity event from earlier in the week.
Mina Harigae participated in an Escape event in Nashville, Tenn., Lexi Thompson spent time working on her game on Wednesday and Friday with coach Jim McLean, and Wie has a new compression sleeve for her ailing right hand. Mariajo Uribe relaxed watching this sunset in her native Colombia, Jane Crafter was at the lovely Old Waverly Golf Club for the ISPS Handa Cup event on the Legends Tour, and Natalie Gulbis is part of a new regular radio show.
Ellie Gibson was inducted into the Texas Christian University’s Lettermen’s Association’s Hall of Fame, Austin Ernst was surprised with a huge poster during her visit to the Taylor Made golf ball plant, longtime Golf World scribe Ron Sirak went home from the hospital on Thursday after receiving a new heart valve, and Epson Tour Player of the Year Marissa Steen threw out the first pitch at the Cincinnati Reds’ game on Thursday. Kerr rubbed shoulders with famous chef Ming Tsai, Paula Creamer threw out the first pitch in Miami on Thursday night, and Karin Sjodin attended Oklahoma State’s football game against Texas Tech on the same beautiful night.
Danielle Kang played in the Los Angeles Police Department’s charity tournament on Thursday, Brittany Lang attended the Texas State Fair, and Christina Kim was thrilled to get a Jamba Juice gift card. Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam is going to play in an October celebrity golf tournament and is gearing up for the annual Annika Invitational collegiate event.
It’s not looking good for the Americans in Scotland right now, but anything can happen in singles play. Hopefully they can pull it out.
Until next time….
As the eyes of the golf world turn to the game’s home in Scotland for this week’s Ryder Cup, LPGA players have been busy resting, working on their games and doing odds and ends during their final off week of the 2014 season.
Jessica Korda and Morgan Pressel took a nice boat ride past the Statue of Liberty to Cristie Kerr’s Birdies for Breast Cancer event on Monday, and the charity event got great weather for its 10th anniversary. Tiffany Joh and Michelle Wie bonded at the event, Natalie Gulbis, Kathleen Ekey and Gerina Piller were there as well, and Korda and Wie helped make the New York City skyline even better.
Brittany Lang was at Austin Ernst’s charity event in South Carolina, where Lexi Thompson met some young female golfers, while Brittany Lincicome was at founder Marilynn Smith’s pro-am and thought about bidding on herself. On Tuesday, the LPGA announced that women’s golf will be going back to Rochester, N.Y., next season for a Epson Tour event named for the late Danielle Downey, which is great news for all involved.
Over the weekend, Mi Jung Hur turned a smooth 66 on Sunday into her first LPGA victory since 2009 at the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic in Prattville, Ala. She was simply superb in setting a tournament record of 21-under-par and shed tears and was doused with water after putting out on the 18th hole to secure her four-stroke win.
It was a fun and busy week in Alabama, with rookie Paula Reto talking to media after keeping the 54-hole lead, while Thompson battled neck pain and missed the cut after a 78 on Saturday. Lincicome made time for some young fans, Jane Park made an interesting on-course snack for herself, and Kerr and Pressel headed to Kerr’s Birdies for Breast Cancer event in style.
Pressel paid homage to the Alabama event’s volunteers, Brooke Pancake, Ekey and Beatriz Recari were on the same flight.
Sunday also meant that 10 Epson Tour players stepped on stage to officially receive their LPGA Tour cards, and congratulations to them. They wasted no time making a splash in honor of their achievement.
Meanwhile, Danielle Kang got her bounce on and made a teapot for her mother, Wie made herself viewable at an airport newsstand, and Korda baked some sweet stuff. Sandra Gal helped Volkswagon launch the new Touareg in style, Dottie Pepper did some sightseeing in England on her way to the Ryder Cup, and Paula Creamer had coffee at the beach on Saturday.
Hall of Famer Se Ri Pak and reigning Rolex Player of the Year Inbee Park took part in the opening festivities of the 2014 Asian Games in Inchon, South Korea, Nicole Castrale had fun with a new friend who’s battling cancer, and Gulbis checked out Reflection Bay at Lake Las Vegas. Lizette Salas is all ready to represent the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Anna Nordqvist worked out in a Ryder Cup t-shirt, and Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam attended a First Tee event on Saturday.
Pepper found this amazing sunset, while Wie attended the New York Giants-Houston Texans game and got to hang with Tiki Barber on Sunday.
It has been a busy week so far, and the next few days should be more of the same. There’s never a dull moment when LPGA players are involved, that’s for sure.
Until next time….
Rookie rocking through two rounds in Alabama
With a wide-open field of talented and hungry players teeing it up this week at the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic in Prattville, Ala., the opportunity has been ripe for a new name to emerge on the leaderboard.
That is exactly what has happened through two rounds, as rookie Paula Reto of South Africa holds a three-stroke advantage at the midway point. World No. 1 Stacy Lewis and South Korea’s Mi Jung Hur shot opening-round 64s to share the lead, but Reto followed a 65 with a 66 and is a trio of shots ahead of Hur, with Lewis third at 9-under.
Reto missed nine of her first 10 cuts this season, but is coming off her first career top-10 finish last month in Portland. It will be interesting to see if Reto can hold off a former Rolex Player of the Year and a host of contenders like Hur who know how to go low, and the Southern drama will play out on Golf Channel.
Twitter Theater has been good again this week, with Brittany Lincicome sharing a photo of some new ball markers she’d been given, an Alabama Waffle House paying homage to 2011 champion Lexi Thompson, who paid the restaurant a visit on Thursday, and a member of former University of Alabama star Brooke Pancake’s pro-am group recording an ace. Lewis gave a young fan a special inside-the-ropes experience on Wednesday, Morgan Pressel took over the LPGA’s Facebook page, and Lincicome talked to local media after helping with the Girls Golf Clinic along with Kathleen Ekey.
Pancake had an Alabama reunion with some fellow former Crimson Tide players, Sydnee Michaels’ pro-am group was dialed in, and Thompson reconnected with one of her most loyal fans. Tiffany Joh did her best Happy Gilmore impression with the help of a GoPro camera, Lincicome noticed a great restaurant is a tournament sponsor, and Ekey and a young fan had fun with the camera too.
Mina Harigae caught her first fish, Angela Stanford was distracted, and Joh’s time in the Yokohama Tire driving simulator didn’t quite measure up. Jaye Marie Green did an Instagram takeover of the LPGA’s page this week, Beatriz Recari recorded her first hole-in-one as a pro on Thursday, and Brittany Lang made these girls’ day with a pair of autographed golf gloves.
Friday was Lincicome’s birthday, and Golf Channel gave her well wishes before she celebrated with friends, Thompson has plenty of healthy snacks and took in a local high school football game on Friday night, and Laura Diaz had some help doing an interview for a local TV station about what it’s like to be a mom on Tour.
In other locales, Jessica Korda visited a famous New York City cathedral and posted more photos from when had a blast at an Adidas golf clothing line launch, while Anna Nordqvist hit a Swedish candy shop and had an emotional experience visiting Ground Zero for the first time in the Big Apple. Nicole Castrale was back on Golf Channel’s “Morning Drive” program again this week and made a new friend at Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando, Suzann Pettersen dropped by Kuddle’s corporate headquarters in Oslo, Norway, and Mariajo Uribe lived it up in Rome and toured Paris.
Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam cleaned house and put together a hefty donation for local charities, her fellow Hall of Famer Karrie Webb continued to enjoy an Italian vacation, and the 2015 Solheim Cup charity event raised $450,000. Pat Hurst enjoyed meeting Martin Kaymer and Steffi Graf (photo) in Germany, and Veronica Felibert enjoyed some beach time to relax.
Natalie Gulbis attended a big Las Vegas opening at the MGM Grand resort, Carlota Ciganda was part of the group of LET players teeing it up in this amazing location this week, and Dottie Pepper had her surgically repaired foot decked out for a trip abroad. Sandra Gal did some shopping in Munich, Paula Creamer got her eat on in San Diego, and this awesome display at LPGA Headquarters in Daytona Beach, Fla., honors the founding members’ message.
The action just never ends, whether it’s between the ropes or elsewhere, and Social Scene will continue to bring you the highlights each week.
Until next time….
Tour serves up Southern hospitality after trip abroad
After a one-year hiatus, the LPGA returns to Prattville, Ala., for another full-field tilt deep in the heart of the South.
This week’s Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic is all set to begin at the beautiful Senator Course at Capitol Hill, part of the impressive Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail that offers golf gems throughout the state. Brooke Pancake was all dolled up for the tournament’s cocktail party, past champions participated in a special challenge that was well-attended on a lovely Tuesday, and Lexi Thompson was the winner.
Beatriz Recari worked hard on Tuesday to get ready for the tournament before having some fun, and it should be a great week for everyone in Alabama.
Over the weekend, 19-year-old Korean LPGA member Hyo Joo Kim rode a record 61 from the first round to her first LPGA career win and first major title at The Evian Championship. Her French triumph was a surprise to many, but LPGA fans likely should look for the talented teen to play on Tour more often in the future.
Kim no doubt was honored to receive this high-level message from legend Gary Player, and Dottie Pepper wrote this piece for ESPNW about Kim’s victory shaking up LPGA veterans.
The Rolex Annika Major Award gala dinner was the highlight of Saturday night, and the Hall of Famer for which the award is named was all smiles while rubbing elbows with this year’s major champions and Tour stars. Paula Creamer received the Ambassador Award at the upscale dinner, dozens of players had a great time at the event, and it was a splendid night for everyone involved.
Congratulations to the fabulous Michelle Wie, who held on to win the prestigious award on Sunday despite being forced to withdraw from the tournament with a lingering right finger injury. David Cannon of Getty Images received the Media Excellence Award on Saturday night as well, so congrats to the talented photographer.
Angela Stanford found a way to “tailgate” for the Texas Rangers’ game while in Evian, the weather was beautiful on Sunday and the course provided amazing views, and plenty of fans were happy to watch Hall of Famer Karrie Webb, who finished second by a stroke. Jessica Korda had an equipment malfunction, Lydia Ko welcomed Minjee Lee into the pro ranks, and here is Creamer’s awesome Flipagram account of her time in Evian.
Danielle Kang, Cheyenne Woods and physiotherapist Louise Aylwin did some sightseeing on Saturday, LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan did an interview for CNN Living Golf, and Wie hung out with the USA’s Evian Junior Championship team. Hall of Famer Juli Inkster paid homage to Evian’s awesome hotel accommodations, Pancake got some new duds, and here is a great Tristan Jones shot of Mariajo Uribe teeing off.
Elsewhere this week, Inkster and Carin Koch, who are serving as captains for next year’s Solheim Cup in Germany, were in the European country to promote the international event at the one-year-out point. The tournament logo was unveiled, and it looks pretty sharp.
Sandra Gal was in her native country for the press conference and got in a workout before serving her duties Natalie Gulbis did a pilates workout on Sunday, and Uribe visited Venice, Italy. Cannon took this nice photo of Creamer before the Solheim Cup media event, Gal hit a golf ball off the Heidelberg Bridge and signed autographs for a throng of eager kids, and Hall of Fame tennis player Steffi Graf was on-hand and took pictures with Inkster, Koch, Gal and Creamer.
Kang took a swing atop Mont Blanc in a once-in-a-lifetime setting, Nicole Castrale was back working for Golf Channel, and Thompson is in the new issue of GolfPunk Magazine after doing a saucy photo shoot. Gulbis ran into a Clydesdale horse on the golf course, found herself at the Anheuser-Busch headquarters, and sampled some product.
Brittany Lincicome ran into Air Force One during her travels, Sorenstam took time to talk to players at the Epson Tour Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla., and players got to spend time at Daytona International Speedway for the pro-am party. Anna Nordqvist and Korda participated in an Adidas event in New York, Kang has a new six-string to strum, and Blair O’Neal, Ryan O’Toole and Creamer are all together on an Upper Deck trading card.
The action just never stops, and those who love the LPGA never want it to. I think they’re in luck.
Until next time….
Season’s final major turns into birdie-fest
If the first two rounds of The Evian Championship, the LPGA’s fifth and final major of 2014, are any indication of what’s in store for golf fans over the weekend, we’re in store for a frenzied finish.
First, 19-year-old Hyo Joo Kim of South Korea torched the scenic Evian Resort Golf Club course on Thursday en route to a record-setting 10-under 61 and the first-round lead. Kim’s score was the lowest in a major championship for the LPGA or PGA Tours and had fans saying, ‘C’est magnifique!’ in Evian-les-Bains, France, and anchors on SportsCenter taking notice.
Kim’s lead was shortlived, however, as a second-round 72 left her a stroke behind Brittany Lincicome (photo), who was a regular atop the leaderboard at the Tour’s last major, the Wegmans LPGA Championship, in mid-August. By the time you read this, Round 3 will be well under way and there could be a new storyline that develops, but the fact that Hall of Famer Karrie Webb, defending champion Suzann Pettersen, world No. 1 Stacy Lewis and two-time 2014 winners Lydia Ko and Anna Nordqvist were in the hunt after 36 holes bodes well for a dramatic Sunday.
Michelle Wie’s return from a right finger injury lasted just 13 holes, and the U.S. Women’s Open champion regretfully withdrew from the tournament after the finger started to give her trouble again. It’s a shame for Wie, the tournament and the Tour, and I hope this is not a sign that she will be plagued by this nagging affliction the rest of the season.
Birdies have been plentiful this week, as have players’ social media posts, as always. Here’s a smattering of the highlights of “Twitter Theater.”
Dozens of players posted Sept. 11 tributes on Thursday, an emotional day for all Americans, including this one from last week’s winner Austin Ernst, this one from Jessica Korda, one from Lexi Thompson and another from Wie. Paula Creamer was decked out in red, white and blue for the first round, Brittany Lang made a fan’s day by autographing one of her gloves, and
One Hall of Famer, Annika Sorenstam, gave props to another, Juli Inkster, for wearing clothes from the ANNIKA Collection, while fans can now follow Morgan Pressel on Twitter. Sorenstam is doing TV work for Golf Channel this week and did an interview for CNN Living Golf, while Wie offered her keys to the golf course earlier in the week before being forced to withdraw.
This group of gals noshed on some pizza on Thursday night, Mariajo Uribe’s husband got his kicks playing soccer, and Carlota Ciganda was called for a penalty in the same game. Hall of Famer Judy Rankin, Terry Gannon and Karen Stupples are also in France working for Golf Channel this week, and they make a great team.
Danielle Kang somehow played with her left thumb looking like this, but missed the cut, here is a great shot of Sandra Gal and another of Creamer by the uber-talented Tristan Jones, and So Yeon Ryu was disqualified for using a bent putter during the second round after an opening-round 70. Minjee Lee is no longer an amateur and shot a 68 on Friday, Wie showed off her ninja skills and shot an impromptu Nike ad in front of an amazing backdrop, and Stupples paid tribute to the area’s natural beauty.
Jane Park and Tiffany Joh proved once again they are oddballs, Thompson attended Friday night’s media party at the tournament, and Ko worked with her coach, David Leadbetter, before the round. Nordqvist’s and Creamer’s caddies were tough enough to wear pink Adidas shirts, and there has been a lot of that color around this week in France, no doubt.
Elsewhere, Jimin Kang was sporting a nice new hat and Natalie Gulbis felt nostalgic about her 2007 victory at the Evian Masters, her only Tour win to date.
On another note, here’s a nice SportsBusiness Daily article on LPGA Chief Communications Officer Kraig Kann. Speaking of media, I would also like to wish famed golf scribe Ron Sirak a quick recovery from surgery he had on Friday.
The next time I write, we will have a new major champion on the LPGA Tour. It’ll be interesting to see if it’s a repeat winner or an up-and-coming star breaking through for her first career major title.
Until next time….
Fun in France for LPGA stars
Ahh, Evian.
Not only is this week about the LPGA’s final major championship of the season, but it also is a treat to the senses for Tour players lucky enough to travel to the gorgeous locale to tee it up. It’s a favorite stop of players and staff alike, and the French hospitality makes the week a delight.
As expected, players have thoroughly enjoyed themselves so far this week, and for good reason. They’ve taken to social media to express their thoughts and share the treat they are experiencing by playing in Evian-les-Bains, and it’s fun to watch.
Jessica Korda enjoyed the view of Lake Geneva, here are some great shots of Michelle Wie teeing off on the beautiful course, and Brooke Pancake spent some time waiting on her luggage to arrive by checking out this unique set of wheels. Wie got some physical therapy treatment, Sandra Gal and Hee Young Park enjoyed themselves on the course, and Sydnee Michaels appreciated the area’s raw beauty.
Mariajo Uribe doesn’t have a bad view from her housing either, Danielle Kang got in a late practice round and got up close and personal with Lake Geneva, and this photo from Gal is yet another reason to be jealous of LPGA players this week. Anna Nordqvist spent part of Tuesday banging away on the range, a trio of major champions from 2014 took part in a press conference on the same day, and Wie revealed that she is going to be on the cover of the October Golf Digest magazine.
The course was a great backdrop for some media interviews on Tuesday, Pancake is sporting some new head covers, and Tiffany Joh took this cool photo to let us know what a golf ball feels like in the cup. Carlota Ciganda was all smiles on the course on Tuesday, Azahara Munoz and Pernilla Lindberg have fresh grips on their clubs for the week, and Nordqvist worked on her putting.
Uribe enjoyed dinner in Evian and snapped this shot of a full moon, Munoz had a colorful pro-am partner on Wednesday, and Brittany Lincicome got some new golf gear, and visitors to the Rolex hospitality tent will have this view. This is the trophy everyone is playing for this week, Lexi Thompson was in good form on the fifth tee during the pro-am, and Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam watched players warm up on Wednesday.
Cheyenne Woods took part in a golf cart video interview at the tournament, So Yeon Ryu hit a ball left-handed, and Jennifer Song got her golf balls ready for action. Lizette Salas and Kang drank chocolate milk in their pajamas in the hotel bar, while Paula Creamer has some cool wheels for the tournament and took in some great fireworks from her room.
Over the weekend, Stacy Lewis’ family joined her in Arkansas as she was inducted into the University of Arkansas’ Hall of Honor, and she met with a number of Razorbacks fans. Lydia Ko arrived in Evian on Sunday, Hall of Famer Juli Inkster got situated at the great hotel players stay in during tournament week, and defending champion Suzann Pettersen gets to stay here.
Elsewhere, Liselotte Neumann saw a dog surfing contest in Del Mar, Pettersen posed for a photo with the winners of the Suzann Junior Challenge in Norway and had fun with friends at the Suzann Pro Challenge as well. Dewi Claire Schreefel won the LET’s Helsingborg Open in Sweden, Sorenstam had some cool travel buddies, 2015 European Solheim Cup Captain Carin Koch did this video interview with Golf Monthly, and Vicky Hurst spent some quality time with family.
The golf has barely begun, and it’s already been an eventful week in France, so the weekend should be a great one.
Until next time….
September 6, 2014
Even though players have the week off from action, the always-hectic world of the LPGA Tour barreled on this week.
The First Tee of St. Petersburg, Fla., mentioned Brittany Lincicome in this nice letter, Maria Hjorth enjoyed a nice morning at the Helsingborg Open, and Lexi Thompson almost had a stowaway in her luggage on her way to Norway. Natalie Gulbis and her hubby were also on their way to Suzann Pettersen’s charity event in the great country on Wednesday after she got in one last practice round, while the LPGA posted this photo of Austin Ernst with her new hardware from Sunday and an interesting look at what the win means for her career.
So Yeon Ryu is present in the flesh and in art in this cool photo, Julieta Granada hit up a Brazilian steakhouse for lunch, and Anna Nordqvist practiced early before heading overseas on Wednesday. Nicole Castrale found a high-tech way of flushing lactic acid out of her legs, Brooke Pancake’s grandfather had a hole-in-one, and Lincicome found herself involved in a big golf match with Kris Tamulis.
Gulbis wished her mom a happy birthday with this touching throwback photo, Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam played some night volleyball, and Brittany Lang showed off her culinary skills on Thursday morning. Congratulations to Iben Tinning, who was announced as Europe’s captain for the 2015 PING Junior Solheim Cup at a special press conference at the Helsingborg Open on Thursday.
Ernst was Golf Channel’s special guest on Thursday’s edition of “Morning Drive,” and followed tradition by signing the studio wall while she was there, while Lang had fun sorting out her new clothes from Antigua’s latest line. Here’s a great Tristan Jones shot of Hjorth hitting a bunker shot at the Helsingborg Open, Michelle Wie had fun with friends at a Drake concert, and Kristy McPherson enjoyed herself at a Club Corp pro-am in Tampa.
Cristie Kerr is a wine maker, but enjoyed a nice brew at a pub while in Austria for an outing, Christina Kim may have found something during a practice session on the range, and Laura Diaz received a new PureSilk golf bag on Thursday. Kerr is giving away some headsets in a contest, Hall of Famer Karrie Webb found a great locale to watch the beginning of the NFL season, and Stacy Lewis hung out with the University of Arkansas’ women’s golf team before being inducted into the school’s Hall of Honor.
Danielle Kang has a new golf bag of her own, Gulbis shared this awesome photo from Norway on Friday morning, and this group enjoyed each other’s company before the pro-am at Pettersen’s event. Hjorth had some great scenery for a morning jog in Sweden, Oslo Golf Club is in amazing shape, and Jessica Korda is enjoying her wheels this week.
Sandra Gal got a tour of Oslo from a friend, Kerr rubbed elbows with Ian Woosnam and found some tasty wine, and Alena Sharp’s dog got a kick out of her head cover. Kathleen Ekey got her PureSilk bag as well, Thompson enjoyed the view at the charity tournament’s pro-am reception, and Beatriz Recari had quite the dinner spread in her native Spain.
In more food news, a natural supermarket Veronica Felibert discovered impressed her, while Ryu found some colorful seafood to munch on.
Next week, it’s on to the LPGA’s final major of the season, The Evian Championship, and players can’t wait to get there.
Until next time….
Ernst basks in glow of first victory as Tour takes break
American Austin Ernst was the big story of the weekend as the 22-year-old broke through for her first LPGA win at the Portland Classic Presented by Cambia Health Solutions.
She defeated I.K. Kim on the first extra hole to become the Tour’s fifth Rolex First-Time Winner of the year and add $195,000 to her bank account. She was showered with water by friends, was able to share the victory with her brother, Drew, who was on her bag at the event, and beamed while holding the champion’s trophy on Sunday.
Ernst catapulted from 145th to 74th in the Rolex Women’s Golf World Rankings and cracked into the top 15 of the 2015 U.S. Solheim Cup points standings, a move that was noted by U.S. Captain Juli Inkster. The former LSU Tiger was stellar over the weekend, playing the final two rounds in 8-under to force a playoff with Kim.
Ernst’s victory was the highlight of a busy weekend in Portland, as Tour stars enjoyed the tournament hospitality and competing in the crisp, clean Oregon air. Defending champion Suzann Pettersen finished in a tie for 16th and took to Instagram to promote her upcoming charity tournament in her native Norway.
In other social media news, Kathleen Ekey rubbed it in that she’d found these tasty treats in Portland, as did Jane Crafter, while Danielle Kang’s mom and caddie couldn’t resist either. Hee Young Park worked in one of the food trucks after her round on Saturday, Tiffany Joh snapped a photo with her standard bearer, and Mariajo Uribe gave her standard bearers signed golf balls.
This group at the Portland Classic did the Ice Bucket Challenge in style, Sydnee Michaels spent time with family, and Lizette Salas put this towel to work on Sunday. Anna Nordqvist took this selfie for friends in Portland, Crafter shared this cool photo and found a sweet car and a nice beer spot, and Jane Park loved playing in the same group as Jeong Jang, who retired after the Portland event.
The Golf Channel crew was ready to go for Sunday’s final round, Brittany Lang impressed her Sunday standard bearer, and Kang shared this amazing shot of Los Angeles after taking off from the tournament. These two fans had fun watching Salas get ready for the final round, while Kerry Eggers of the Portland Tribune wrote this cool piece about playing in the tournament’s pro-am.
Elsewhere, Sandra Gal watched some tennis at the U.S. Open in New York on Saturday and posted this video, Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam gave a private clinic at The Greenbrier in West Virginia while the kids went fishing, and Hall of Famer Beth Daniel took a stroll down memory lane by visiting Furman University over the weekend. Speaking of Furman, Dottie Pepper received a very cool thank-you letter from a fan on her new book starring Bogey Ballton, Azahara Munoz enjoyed a nice dinner with friends and family, and Michelle Wie hit the beach.
Liselotte Neumann shared this scenic shot from Palm Springs, Calif., Gal visited the Guggenheim Museum on Sunday and saw some amazing art, and Wie ran into a unicorn. LPGA fans can vote for Stacy Lewis as the 2014 Sportswoman of the Year here on the Women’s Sports Foundation’s website, and Lexi Thompson had this soothing view as her backdrop for a golf course run in Florida.
Brittany Lincicome was in heaven fishing on Sunday, Thompson practiced putting on Monday, and Munoz also went back to work on her game. Ryann O’Toole enjoyed her time and this view at home, So Yeon Ryu spent time with her mom on Monday, and Park did her best Ron Burgundy impression after arriving back home in Atlanta.
Wie helped a friend celebrate a birthday and returned to hitting full shots on Tuesday, Paula Creamer enjoyed some quality time with loved ones, and Sarah Jane Smith is all stocked up on Titleists for a while. Here is a look at Jodi Ewart’s workout regimen, Michelle McGann had a hole-in-one on Tuesday, Sarah Kemp took a day off in West Palm Beach, and Inkster and Pat Hurst prepared for their fantasy football draft the same way I probably will.
Speaking of which, I better go study my NFL player list to see who I can get to take me to another fantasy football title.
Until next time….
