MONDAY Playoff
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., December 8, 2014 – Final Stage of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament continued on Monday morning at 7:25 a.m. with the resumption of a sudden death playoff to determine the final spot in Category 12.
On the fifth playoff hole of the day and the 11th in total dating back to Sunday night, Karlin Beck (Pike Road, Ala.) emerged with a 75-foot chip in from just short of the 18th green on the Hills Course.
“I hit my approach shot in and came up short of the green and we played that hole so many times and I knew exactly how it was going to break,” said Beck, who played on the LPGA Tour in 2012 and 2013. “It was definitely the shot of my life so far.”
After four holes on Monday, Casey Grice (College Station, Texas) was eliminated with a bogey on the 10th hole and the playoff was down to Stephanie Meadow (Jordanstown, Northern Ireland) and Karlin Beck.
Meadow’s approach shot on the fifth playoff hole went just past the green into the second cut of rough. She had to hole her chip to extend the playoff and it came up short.
“This is tough,” said an emotional Meadow. “I didn’t play bad, I probably had the most opportunities but I wasn’t able to make anything.”
Meadow, who finished third at the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open, will have LPGA Tour membership through Category 17 in 2015.
“It’s good, but it is not what I wanted,” said the 2013-14 First-Team All-American at Alabama. “I’m still proud to be an LPGA Tour member and I’ll have a lot of opportunities to play my way into better status.”
Casey Grice, who finished 24th on the Epson Tour’s Volvik Race for the Card money list in 2014, will have LPGA Tour membership through Category 17.
