Juli Inkster Will Compete In Next Week’s LPGA Legends Tour Event
BOSTON, Oct. 30, 2014 – Juli Inkster, a member of the LPGA and World Golf Halls of Fame, will play in her first official LPGA Legends Tour stroke-play event next week at the Walgreens Charity Championship presented by The Seagate Country Club in Delray Beach, Fla.
Inkster appeared last month at the ISPS Handa Cup team event, representing the United States. She won her singles match against Great Britain’s Laura Davies and contributed four points in Team USA’s 28-20 victory over the World Team, but next week’s tournament, set for Nov. 6-9, will mark her Legends Tour debut against longtime veteran LPGA peers.
“I grew up with these gals and I had a lot of fun playing with them again at the Handa Cup,” said Inkster, who owns 31 LPGA tournament wins, including seven major championships. “I’d like to play in a few Legends Tour events and help support them.”
Still active on the LPGA Tour, Inkster plans to scale back her 2015 LPGA schedule to around a dozen tournaments, while spending most of next season preparing to lead Team USA as its captain at the 2015 Solheim Cup in Germany. In addition to competing and leading the Americans’ squad when it travels to Europe next year, Inkster has also entered television broadcasting and will serve as a golf commentator next year with Fox Sports.
Inkster will be one of nine Hall of Famers in the field next week at the Walgreens Charity Championship, joining Amy Alcott, Pat Bradley, JoAnne Carner, Beth Daniel, Sandra Haynie, Nancy Lopez, Patty Sheehan and Hollis Stacy.
“It’s a lot different on the Legends Tour than the LPGA Tour because most of the Legends players don’t compete as much anymore,” added Inkster. “But you still have to play good golf and you still have to put up a good number to win. I’m looking forward to playing.”
The 36-hole tournament will feature 48 LPGA Tour legends and two amateurs. The professional field will compete for a purse of $250,000, with the winner taking home a prize of $30,000. A Senior Legends Division within the tournament will be offered for players 63 and over. A low-amateur prize also will be awarded.
Tickets are on sale at all Florida Walgreens stores. Golf fans may save $5 per ticket by purchasing tickets in advance in more than 260 Walgreens stores located throughout the Sunshine State.
Advance tickets are only available at Walgreens stores at $10 per day per adult. Full-price tickets at the gate are $15 each day. Kids under 13 accompanied by an adult and military personnel with IDs will be granted free admission at the main gate on tournament days.
Ticket proceeds will support three local charities: The Dan Marino Foundation (DMF), Achievement Centers for Children & Families (ACCF), and Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (ADVA). The event will also support and raise awareness for Seagate’s charity partner, Habitat for Humanity.
