Mountain Lake Golf Club professional to play Epson Tour event in her community
DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA, March 11, 2014 – The Epson Tour, the official Qualifying Tour for the LPGA, presents the sixth annual Florida’s Natural Charity Classic from Friday, March 21 through Sunday, March 23 at Lake Wales Country Club in Lake Wales, Florida. The top up-and-coming women’s golfers on the Epson Tour will be vying for a purse of $125,000, the fourth highest total purse on tour this year.
The event will be the third of 20 events as part of the expanded schedule of 2014 Epson Tour tournaments. The Tour has not had more than 20 events since the 1989 season. The Epson Tour is offering a total purse this year that exceeds $2 million for the first time in Tour history.
Emily Flanigan Motta, a local from Windermere, Fla. was recently surprised by the Epson Tour, Florida’s Natural and Mountain Lake Golf Course with the news that she would be the Florida’s Natural sponsor exemption.
“We’re excited for Emily and the opportunity she has in front of her to once again compete on the Epson Tour,” said Mike Nichols, Chief Business Officer of the Epson Tour. “It was amazing to see the pure joy on Emily’s face when she was surprised with the news that she’d be the Florida’s Natural sponsor exemption for the Florida’s Natural Charity Classic.”
Flanigan Motta, whose hometown course is Mountain Lake Golf Course, last played on the Epson Tour in 2012. The 24-year-old played her college golf at Florida Southern College and finished fifth at the 2011 Division II National Championship. Flanigan Motta, who works at Mountain Lake Golf Course on the professional staff, was a four-time Academic All-American and First-Team All-American her senior season.
“Mountain Lake has been growing citrus since the early 1900’s and has had a co-op relationship with Florida’s Natural for more than 10 years, so with that being said, having a member of our team represent the Mountain Lake and Lake Wales communities is quite an honor for Emily,” said Mountain Lake PGA Professional Jonathan Powell. “Emily has been working very hard improving her game to meet her lifelong goal to play on the LPGA Tour. The opportunity for Emily to play in this event has the potential to be career boosting. Should she play well, it could open up doors for more events throughout the season and put her on the path to her career goal.”
Florida’s Natural, the title sponsor of the event, echoed the sentiments of the Epson Tour and Mountain Lake.
“We are thrilled to give Emily Flanigan Motta a sponsor exemption for the Florida’s Natural Charity Classic,” said Walt Lincer, President of the Florida’s Natural Growers Foundation. “We know that the residents of Lake Wales will be cheering her on as she plays in the tournament.”
