Blair O’Neal, Tonya McCall to play in Decatur-Forsyth Classic
DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA, June 2, 2014 – The Epson Tour, the Road to the LPGA, is returning to Decatur, Illinois for the 30th anniversary of the Decatur-Forsyth Classic presented by Tate & Lyle and Decatur Park District. The event will take place at Hickory Point Golf Course from June 13-15.
Two former stars of the Golf Channel reality series Big Break have received sponsor exemptions into the field. Blair O’Neal, who starred on Big Break Prince Edward Island and Big Break Dominican Republic, and Tonya McCall, who was on the most recent Big Break Florida, will aim to join an impressive list of former winners that includes Tammie Green, Lorena Ochoa and Vicky Hurst.
O’Neal won Big Break Dominican Republic and finished second at Big Break Prince Edward Island. She has played in five Epson Tour events this season. The Scottsdale, Arizona native has played on the Epson Tour since 2004.
She took a four-year hiatus from 2007-2010 to focus on her blossoming modeling career. O’Neal’s modeling resume includes Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and more.
“I am extremely honored to be able to participate in the Decatur-Forsyth Classic at Hickory Point Golf Club,” said O’Neal. “The Village of Forsyth and the City of Decatur, with presenting sponsors Tate & Lyle and Decatur Park District, continue to make this tournament a staple event on the LPGA Epson Tour.”
O’Neal has played in the event six times and has a great appreciation for the longevity of the tournament.
“To be part of this tournament, especially in its 30th year, is very special. I can’t wait to get to work!”
McCall, a three-time All-American at Drury University, was a cast member on Big Break Florida this year. She won 11 events during her decorated college career.
McCall recently captured her first professional win in a Cactus Tour event. Last year, she had four top-10 finishes on the Cactus Tour.
“I don’t think the organizers understand how important this sponsor exemption is for me,” said McCall. “My reaction was absolute excitement. I was honored they choose me and the timing is awesome for many reasons, but in part because I am playing well.”
The Decatur-Forsyth Classic presented by Tate & Lyle and Decatur Park District will be her first career Epson Tour event.
“Big Break has opened so many doors for me. “It has truly re-launched my career.”
O’Neal and McCall will join a 144-player field competing for a total purse of $100,000. The winner will receive $15,000 and have a chance to jump inside the top-10 on the Volvik Race for the Card money list.
