The Youth Olympic Games have scored a hole in one – securing the support of American golfer Michelle Wie as a YOG Ambassador! The announcement came today, with fewer than 300 days to go until golf makes its Youth Olympic Games (YOG) debut at Nanjing 2014 next summer.
Michelle, who was the youngest ever player to qualify for a USGA tournament, aged just 10 years old, will feature in a series of fantastic videos giving you an exclusive look at what it takes to be a world-class athlete and also offering some inspiration to the next generation to follow their dreams. Take a look at our first video in the series introducing our latest Ambassador to the YOG team.
Speaking about her nomination as a YOG Ambassador, the 24-year-old, who has achieved two LPGA career victories, said: ““I feel so honored to be part of the Youth Olympic Games. I’m hoping to teach young people to have fun with their game, to be competitive, to really want something and to realize the importance of having a dream.”
Golf will feature on the sports programme for the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games ahead of its return to the Olympic Games, at Rio 2016, after more than a century.
As for her own aspirations to qualify for Rio 2016, Michelle said: “I went to the London Olympic Games last year and that really got me inspired. It really got me motivated and I’m going do everything I can. It’s one of my biggest focuses, making the American team for Rio.”
Welcome Michelle on board by saying hello on our Facebook page and Twitter channel. And stay tuned for more exclusive Ambassador videos coming soon!
