Monroe Golf Club in Pittsford Set To Host Major Championship, August 14-17, 2014

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA, June 27, 2013 – The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and Wegmans Tournament Officials announced today that the Wegmans LPGA Championship will move from its traditional June date to the week of August 11^thin 2014. The move in dates will accommodate the 2014 LPGA Tour Schedule.

In addition, the tournament organization has finalized a one-year agreement with the prestigious Monroe Golf Club, located at 155 Golf Avenue in Pittsford, New York, to be the host golf course for the 60^th Wegmans LPGA Championship in 2014 and the fifth edition of the LPGA major championship in Rochester since 2010.

“The LPGA is thrilled and grateful to continue our longstanding partnership with Wegmans, the Rochester region, and the golf fans that have shown us such incredible support and hospitality over so many years,” said LPGA Commissioner Michael Whan. “Our return in 2014 not only continues this MAJOR tradition in one of golf’s greatest cities, but also brings us to a new host venue. Together with Wegmans, we are excited to introduce fans in more than 160 countries to Monroe Golf Club while continuing to showcase Rochester as one of the truly best locations for world-class golf venues.

Whan continued, “As this extraordinary major continues, the LPGA would like to extend a very sincere ‘thank you’ to Locust Hill Country Club which served as a challenging venue, a fantastic host, and most importantly, a wonderful friend to our players, staff and fans.”

Monroe Golf Club, a top Donald Ross designed golf course, is ranked by Golfweek magazine as one of the top 100 classic golf courses in the United States.

“We are very excited to host next year’s tournament and to be able to continue to bring the Wegmans LPGA Championship to the Rochester community and its golf fans,” said Stephen McCluski, president of Monroe Golf Club. “We look forward to having the best LPGA professionals in the world competing on our course.”

While there are a number logistical details that still need to be worked out, tournament officials feel the golf course, the clubhouse and other facilities are well suited to host the major championship.

“I think we’re all excited to go back to Rochester again next year,” said top-ranked American Stacy Lewis. “Checking out a new course is always fun and I’ve heard great things about Monroe Golf Club. I’m excited to test it out.”

Regarding the date change to August, Pinehurst No. 2 is set to host the U.S. Open Championship and the U.S. Women’s Open in consecutive weeks next June, a unique format that creates a shift in the LPGA’s 2014 tournament schedule.

Monroe Golf Club is the 16^th golf course to host the Wegmans LPGA Championship dating back to 1955.
