For eight years, Angela Stanford’s "Let Your Light Shine" Charity Golf Tournament has been a staple event on the calendar for LPGA Tour pros and fans, alike. This year, 18 fellow pros joined Stanford for a night devoted to raising funds for her foundation.
The eighth annual "Let Your Light Shine Charity" Golf Tournament raised more than $115,000, which will fund scholarships for Texas students whose families have been affected by cancer.
The Diamond Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas hosted the 18-hole event. The unique format consisted of nine-holes during the afternoon with a night of glow-in-the-dark golf following dinner and a silent auction.
LPGA players who participated in the event were Stacy Lewis, Wendy Ward, Gerina Piller, Katie Futcher, Dori Carter, Leta Lindley, Kristy McPherson, Pat Hurst, Danah Bordner, Heather Bowie-Young, Julia Boland, Marcy Hart, Laura Diaz, Meredith Duncan, Lauren Doughtie, Cindy Lacrosse and Tiffany Joh.
“I’ve always said this about the LPGA Tour - I’m fortunate enough to call these women my friends,” said Stanford. “They’re just good people and they have big hearts. Most people only see them as golfers, but I think events like these help people see that they’re just good people. I’m lucky that they keep showing up for my event. It doesn’t work without them.”
Last season, Stanford earned the 2012 Kia Community Assist Award, which recognizes a player who makes exceptional contributions to charity organizations or community programs. Through the Angela Stanford Foundation, the 13-year LPGA Tour veteran has made a huge impact on kids’ lives in the Fort Worth, Texas community and serves as a catalyst for Breast Cancer awareness.
