In this revealing look at the sport of golf, LPGA.com will catch up with popular caddies on Tour to learn some of the most entertaining stories about their job and player. They'll provide an insider's scoop on and off the course. The first in the series is “Rock”, caddie to Morgan Pressel, he'll share insider scoop on Pressel.
Name:
Barry Cesarz
Nickname:
Rock
Years on tour:
I'm starting my fifth season.
Years with player:
I have worked only with Morgan.
How many wins total:
One win in Japan in 2010.
How did you get on her bag:
I’ve known Morgan for eight years. She practiced at Trump’s course and I caddied there for nine years. She had me help out with her charity event for a couple of years and in 2009 she started asking questions about me leaving Trump’s to caddy for her. Once she got back to the U.S. after the first few events of the season she asked me to be her caddy and I joined her on Tour.
A few things we don’t know about your player:
- She loves to shop. She’s really looking forward to Singapore and the shopping.
- She just got married.
- She’s really smart, a real technology geek. If you have a problem with your iPhone or iPad take it to Morgan.
- She’s now gluten free. She bakes her own bread now and will carry a suitcase with food when playing in Asia.
How early does she arrive at the course:
1 1/2 hours before her tee time
Is she a talker on the course:
For the most part.
What’s your involvement (clubs/yardage/putts/just carry):
I get all the yardages and we talk about clubs but she makes the choice. On the greens she’ll sometimes call me over for my opinion. I read all her putts just to be ready if she wants my opinion.
Interesting thing she carries in her bag:
Nine lip balms and at one point it was 11. I think I have the heaviest bag on Tour. We have a rock in our bag. She also carries a lint roller and we have a ton a food. If you’re hungry on the course come to my bag.
Best caddie career moment:
Winning in Japan and having the winning point in the 2009 Solheim Cup in Chicago on the 16th green against Anna Nordqvist.
Favorite course/why:
The course in Rochester where we play the Wegmans LPGA Championship. It’s a hard course. There are tight fairways and small greens. There are a lot of fans as well.
What do you do in the off season:
I work a little at some clubs if they call me to caddie. Other than that I lounge around and play a lot of golf.
