This week's top three stories on the LPGA Tour – ShopRite LPGA Classic
Brittany Lincicome
Defending champion and Rolex Rankings No. 12 Brittany Lincicome is coming off a tough loss in the first round at the Sybase Match Play Championship. She started the season off with a tie for second after participating in a six-way playoff in the season opener in Australia. However, it's been a bit of a rollercoaster year for Lincicome since then. She posted a solo ninth place finish at the Kia Classic between two missed cuts at the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup and the Kraft Nabisco Championship. She found herself near the top of the leaderboard again with a tie for fourth at the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic. Maybe the Bay Course could be her good luck charm to help her pick up consistency and momentum for the rest of the season.
Inching her way to the top
Stacy Lewis is in the hunt for taking the top American spot in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings, taking over the No. 7 spot with Cristie Kerr at No. 5. Lewis has had a spectacular season so far with six top-10s and only one missed cut. After claiming a $187,500 first-place check at the Mobile Bay Classic, Lewis became the only American in the top-5 in season earnings with $474,246. Lewis also leads the Americans in Player of the Year points placing third behind fellow 2012 winners Yani Tseng and Sun Young Yoo. Angela Stanford and Jessica Korda follow close behind at seventh and 10th, respectively. With a solid finish this week, Lewis could be leading the pack soon.
A historical golf course
The Bay Course at Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club has a long history with the LPGA Tour. In its 23 seasons as a tournament on the LPGA schedule, champions like Juli Inkster (1986 and 1988), Betsy King (1987, 1995, and 2001), Nancy Lopez (1989) and Annika Sorenstam (1998, 2002, 2005) have walked off the course with a beautiful crystal trophy. All four of these women are World Golf Hall of Famers. These ladies have left a legacy on this course, and the champions to follow will most certainly continue it.
