Hello everyone! This is my first blog EVER...so here it goes. If I had to chose one word to describe my first three weeks on tour, it would have to be MEMORABLE. From double bogeying my first hole at the RR Donelley LPGA Founders Cup to meeting Nancy Lopez for the very first time, to walking down the 18th hole at the Kraft Nabisco, it has all been a wonderful experience and having my family be there alongside cheering me on is the best!
Looking back at my finish at Q-School last December and where I am today, I definitely proved to myself that I can compete with the best players in the world. Yea of course being a rookie has its embarrassing moments, like forgetting your scorecard on the first hole at the KIA classic or sitting through rookie orientation for several hours, but it's all part of the experience and the LPGA really did a good job at the KIA Classic to help us understand the behind the scene actions, which makes me appreciate every moment I’m out on the course because there isn't a better job out there.
Well let me rephrase, being a LPGA tour player isn't a job, it's a passion and a lifestyle I’ve chosen to pursue since I was little girl. Playing my first three events on the West Coast has definitely made the transition a little easier because I had friends and family at each event and I couldn't ask for better fans that came out to cheer me on. Especially with the buttons my mom made! So far I have not missed a cut since I turned pro last June (knock on wood!) and it's something I’m proud of because it's not easy playing week to week at golf courses I’ve never seen before but there is lots of room for improvement and I can't wait to see what the rest of the season will turn out. But like my coach at USC Andrea Gaston always tells me “one shot at time” and it is definitely true.
I have gotten the opportunity to play with veterans Janice Moddie and Wendy Ward as well as Solheim team players Brittany Lang and Natalie Gulbis and they are all so sweet and welcoming me into the tour. The real treat was playing with former USC Trojans Nicole Castrale and Dewi Claire Schreffel (my old teammate). I’m really excited to head out to Hawaii, following me on facebook and Twitter: @LizetteSalas5
